@hybridlore Violin is gorgeous. <3 Do you have a favorite song to play?
I play the piano, and I’ve fiddled around with the guitar and the recorder in the part. XP
Spaceships, thieves, and magic – that sounds like a fantastic combination. XD

What kind of characters do you like writing best?

@acancello My latest book obsession is For Whom the Sun Sings. It’s dystopian but without dystopian clichés (i.e. no angsty teenagers and no robots overtaking the world 😜), and it’s. . . truly a masterpiece. <3 It’s about an eleven-year-old boy who can see in a society where every man, woman, and child is blind. The characters are heart-breaking,…[Read more]

@sarafini Yayyy, this is going to be great!
Per the YWW pitch – *clears throat* YWW quite literally changed my life. 🥰 I had been writing for a few years and had scoured the internet for every article on writing out there, yet I wasn’t moving as quickly as I wanted to. Then, after a handful of CWWs, I took the plunge and joined YWW in January of…[Read more]

Karissa Chmil replied to the topic NICE PARENTS CLUB in the forum Characters 1 year, 6 months ago
@whalekeeper Ooh, fascinating topic. <3 I genuinely love good parent-child relationships in fiction. . . whenever they do show up. 😜
I think what you said is on point – it’s not the writing of abusive or absent parents that’s the problem, because those things do exist in real life and fiction should mirror that. The problem is the way it’s…[Read more]

@euodia-vision Ack, I thought I had responded to this. I found it online and can’t for the life of me find out who wrote it, but it’s beautiful. <3
The piper piped in the valley
Of rainbow hopes and fears,
A song as old as the Angels
That fell on our idle ears;
And the elfin echoes of laughter
Were lost in the dying day
As we forget, for…[Read more]

Karissa Chmil replied to the topic WIP Question in the forum Historical 1 year, 8 months ago
@landric Most of the historical fiction I’ve read is in third person, so unless you have a strong reason to go with first, I might stick with third? Especially since that’s what your audience is expecting, and they probably like it better. 😋 But ooh, journal entries + third person sound excellent!

@acancello Yesss, the Little Women trilogy is the best! I actually thought Jo’s Boys was another name for Little Men the first time I saw it and didn’t pick it up because of that. XD I know I’m probably not supposed to ask this question, but I’m going to anyhow. 😇 Do you have a favorite of those three?
Also, have you ever read any of Jennifer…[Read more]

Karissa Chmil replied to the topic How to write a meaninful character death? in the forum Characters 1 year, 8 months ago
“Misery, misery! Readers won’t kill us, nice readers-“
Adapted Gollum quotes aside, I think you can outrage your readers without cheating them. Both can happen in a character’s death, and cheated readers very often are outraged. 😛 But you can reasonably outrage a reader without them feeling cheated.
If you truly build up your character (and it…[Read more]

(Note: This is probably going to be long. XD)
I’m going to take a theological approach to this at the beginning. Scripture says two things on the state of man: (1) Man was created in the image of God, as seen in Genesis 1:27, and (2) man has fallen short of the glory of God and no longer upholds that image as he should, as seen in Romans…[Read more]
