Well, if I do join, I hope to see you there!😃 Don’t ask Brett or anyone anything yet, though — I’m working through my own concepts right now and trying to refine them😊.

Hi everyone!
I’m considering joining the Author Conservatory, and I was interested to know if any of you are in it? If so, what are you thoughts on the program? Things I should know? Pros and Cons? Is there anything you wished you’d known before you joined, but didn’t?
For me, one of the things I’m struggling with is that I have already written…[Read more]

@faith-q Yeah, Picket was cool. And at the end, after he loses his arm and his niece is sentenced to “100 tickles for spreading dandelion seeds all over his garden”…..
Picket: “I’ll try to carry out the sentence, but I have only one arm, and one hand on that arm.”
Heather: “If you had two hands on one arm that’d be weird.”
Picket: “Depends on…[Read more]

I finally started reading the Green Ember series and I love it! It’s so cool how the writer did the whole story with wolves and eagles (rabbit predators) as villains and rabbits as heroes. And the lore behind it and backstory–all so cool! I’m on the third book right now. What did you think of it? Who’s your favorite character? I honestly love a…[Read more]

@faith-q You need to write at least one short story under Vierra F. Spring, and no one will understand except that one person who laughed at you.

Madelyn replied to the topic When is it okay to defy the government? in the forum Mission, Calling & Ethics 4 years, 3 months ago
That is such a good question! I’ve seen it over and over again in books or films (*cough* Disney *cough*) where rebellion is wrongly glorified, and it’s really something that needs to be addressed.
Most people have already summed it up on this thread: respect your government and obey them UNLESS they order you to do something that is a…[Read more]

@faith-q Here’s my ideas:
Like everyone else said, there’s a difference between obeying your ruler completely and respecting them as the Bible says.
If a leader tells you to steal or murder, will you? It goes against God’s law and is therefore wrong, no matter what earthly rulers may think or say. Think of Christians under Muslim or Communist…[Read more]

@faith-q That is a very good question, and one I’ve asked myself a few times haha.
To answer your question, I would look in the Bible.
Esther defied Haman, who wasn’t a king, but he was apart of the rulership in the monarchy. She played a major role in having him executed.
All throughout the old testament, (which, granted, things are different…[Read more]

Okay, so I’m probably just going to repeat what everyone else has already said since I only skimmed a few of the replies. yeah, I’m lazy. 😂
But I TOTALLY get your question. This is something I’ve been wondering about a lot lately actually. And actually, in my novel, Heir to His Crown, there is a rebellion group that my main character…[Read more]

Well… I’d say everyone else here has given great answers.
I’d say the same thing. With your characters actions if he messes up be sure to portray the wrong as wrong.
Again with the government and any authority we are commanded to obey them unless it goes against the Bible. And when we can’t obey still do it respectfully. Like @elishavet…[Read more]

This was cool to read through. All of these are some great points.
Emeric and Jornan. Hhhmmmmmm. If I were writing this kind of situation, honestly I would bring in a new character to help snap Emeric out of his guilt, and remind him of the truth so that he’s able to do what’s right and apply all that was said here.
(also I love those…[Read more]

When is it okay to rebel? Good question, and here’s my questionably good answer(which is basically what everyone else has said. Those were great answers, ya’ll!). When government goes against what is right or godly, we have to speak up. To go along with evil is a sin, or as the Word says, “to him who knoweth to do good, and doeth it not,…[Read more]

Regarding the government question, I think I’m agreeing with everyone so far. We should obey the government as far as we’re able–that is, so long as the government is not demanding we do something that violates God’s law.
Other times when one might want to disobey the government I think come down to Christian liberty. For example, the…[Read more]

I agree with what @elfwing said about respecting the government, but always putting God’s commands first. As far as I understand it (which admittedly may not be much) we are to obey and respect our leaders, but we are not to obey anything which goes against the Bible or what God decrees. Think about the early Christians — they res…[Read more]

@faith-q So this is personal thoughts, as well as stuff drawn from advice from my awesome dad who’s super good at explaining these things XD I can’t promise my version will be very coherent as I’m exhausted, but here goes XD
Paul said to respect the authority.
Respect and obey are two very, very different things.
The believers were instructed…[Read more]

That’s kinda funny, because that’s the same opinion Tolkien had on Lewis’s work! Tolkien also didn’t like The Chronicles of Narnia very much because the mythology didn’t make sense.
Although I love The Chronicles of Narnia, I get why it wouldn’t settle right for some people. It does do a lot of crazy things with mythology that might…[Read more]
