Ok so first of allllll, sorry for replying an entire month late 😭
Second, I think Jonas made some really great points! I totally agree with him.
I’d also add that there’s a reason cliches and tropes exist–and that’s because they work. Oftentimes they can be overdone and end up boring and predictable, but they can also be used as tools to enhance the story and make it interesting.
Readers of certain genres go into a book within that genre with certain expectations. And if you make your story too unique, people won’t like it. I’m not saying to use a bunch of cliches and tropes, but don’t worry so much about making your story so unique. I think the more you work on what Jonas was talking about–incorporating your “cliche” more deeply into the plot and giving it a purpose–the more your story is going to sound more like itself, while still fitting into basic reader expectations.
(As a quick example, my readers have certain expectations coming into a contemporary ya novel. I’m not going to throw in a unicorn or a dragon just to be unique and make my story different. 😂 I know that’s a drastic example, but hopefully that helps you understand what I’m trying to say)

This is really good, Sara!! It’s not like super confusing with a ton of political stuff going on that doesn’t make sense, but it’s not so simple that it’s not realistic. I actually think it’s really realistic and something I could totally understand happening in our world (and I think it actually has before… War of 1812 anyone??)
I don’t really have anything else to add! I can tell you’ve spent a lot of time on this and it’s been fleshed out really well!!

Update!!
My mom had her surgery today (so they removed the tumor and did a biopsy on her lymph nodes to make sure the cancer didn’t spread). Good news all around! The surgery went well and the test on the lymph node came back negative for cancer!! 🥳 Praise the Lord!!! 🙌🏻
Also praising because we have sooo many people supporting us rn. We had tons of people praying for us, signing up for the meal train, giving us gift cards, and just letting us know they’re here for us. It’s truly incredible and overwhelming to see how many wonderful people God has blessed us with. 🥹🫶🏻 (Dad and Mom told us that this morning while they were waiting in the hospital, their phones were blowing up with people texting them and telling them they were praying. And then when he shared the good news, it was another flood of texts, praising with us. <3)

@hybridlore @everyone
Thanks for checking in! <3 I was gonna post an update a couple days ago but forgot ?
Ok so, she had an appointment/meeting with the doctors on Thursday, and there they decided that the next course of action is surgery. I don’t think this is removal of the tumor, it’s just to check her lymph nodes and make sure the cancer hasn’t spread. And that surgery isn’t for another month (exactly, actually). Then they’ll decided what treatment to do next. Mom and Dad have done some research and it looks like it won’t have to be chemo, or at least not something aggressive, but obviously we still don’t know for sure.
thank you so much for praying, y’all!! ❤️

Ok so update on Mom.
She had her appointment end of December and we found out that she does have breast cancer. Except it’s stage one I believe. They caught it really really early. It’s not fast growing and pretty small, but we still don’t know a lot about the next steps. She and Dad will have a consolation with the doctor in less than two weeks to discuss the next steps/treatment plan. Hopefully she can just go the surgery route and that the treatment wouldn’t be too long, but we just don’t know a lot right now.
For anyone wondering, I’m doing okay. ? I think I’m not super worried just because Mom and Dad are really trusting God right now and if they’re worried, it isn’t super obvious, lol. We talked about it as a family though last night so we’re all on the same page, which is good.
It’s been really nice to know you guys were praying as we were waiting! <33
