but I’m really struggling with the middle of it 😩

@esther-c I write alternately from first or third. It really depends on which you like better. I wouldn’t do it just because that’s the mainstream, though. I also wouldn’t do multiple POV’s from first person, because that would get confusing quickly.
Honestly, I should just start writing the random scenes that show up in my head instead of…[Read more]

Hmm… That’s kinda how the first book in my series is… action-less…
Being the beginner-ish writer I am, I don’t really have any tips—but here are my thoughts anyway… (ok, maybe they’re tips…?? idk idk XD XD)
(It is hard to say much without knowing anything of your novel though… 😊)
Do you have a basic-ish overall plot at al…[Read more]

Waiiiit… isn’t the Penderwicks third person??? Or have I officially gone insane?
I don’t really think I’ll be able to help, cuz I’m completely out of my element when it comes to contemporary.
I don’t know about the first vs. third person problem, but if you have multiple POV characters, I’d recommend that you stick to…[Read more]

Wyoh, I can’t think of a good insult rn, but stop
@esther-c First person for some reason really bothers me. There are some books like Percy Jackson and the Penderwicks that I’ve enjoyed despite being in first person, but it still really pulls me out of the story. It makes me wonder why the mc is talking to me or if the book is like the mc’s perso…[Read more]

I generally like third person more than first person. Both are good though, so do what you think works best. Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s best. I can’t help much with the rest, because I’m having the same problem. Some books that do this well are The Penderwicks, The Vanderbeekers, Cheaper by the Dozen, and The Melendy Quartet.

I would say, just use a lot of Abbie Emmons’ advice (I’m sure you’re probably doing that already though XD) and make everything that happens build the internal conflict more.
And about first person…obviously don’t do it if you don’t want to, but I think first person helps bring out the character’s voices a lot more. While the actual…[Read more]

Don’t worry about nagging me. 😁 But I was literally thinking about your story this morning. I was like, “oh my goodness I haven’t read it in foreverrr!!” 😂 So I’m going to get to that today and hopefully this week too. I’m soooo sorry I haven’t read it in a while!!
It’s okay! I get it, life happens XD
