@Daeus I got 869— not stunning, but I got over a difficult slump where there was a lull in the action so I’m happy.

@Daeus me. And yes, I’m planning on it.

@Daeus yes, I know. Eldest was by far the toughest to get through. Thematically wishy-washy and not accomplishing much of anything. It’s been a while since I read Brisingr, but I do seem to remember it being a lot more interesting and a lot less eye-roll-worthy when it came to the worldview, probably because it didn’t say much of anything about it…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm My favorite genre is the singer/songwriter genre. Google it, listen to a few (or a lot of) artists, and you’ll find a prevailing style but with different cross overs (usually with pop). However, the overall sound doesn’t normally have a lot of instruments. Sometimes just a guitar and a singer. The thing that ties this genre…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Actually I don’t mean repetition in that way. I’m talking about repetition of theme. Take this:
verse 1: God is good
verse 2: God is all powerful
verse 3: God is justBoring!
Although, it’s true it’s still super boring.

@anne-of-lothlorien Pop over to the How to write song lyrics thread. Variety can be achievedin many ways including irregular meter, different line lengths, and close rhymes.

@sarah-h Good for you! It is a great movie. I think the strongest asset of the movie is the great characters (combined with great performances). Because the singing is less so. Watch the Broadway 25th Anniversary version. Singing is so much better.

@emma-flournoy Just a quick one because I have to go soon. Let me start from the bottom.
The Bible says that “Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.” That kind of implies that he did have a heart for God (note the word fully). So that’s why I have the tolerant view of him. I…[Read more]

@The-Bean according to my observations, yes. But I don’t think it necessarily follows that one must be an introvert to be a writer. Introverts simply come to that more naturally. It’s a ‘safer’ way for them to make their voice heard.
@Anne-of-Lothlorien no, I don’t think I’ve ever based a character off a family member or someone I know. Just…[Read more]

@WarrioroftheRealm hm… my favorite genre of music is probably traditional Celtic/Scottish/Nordic, though it’s really hard to find genuinely beautiful arrangements of traditional tunes.
And… I don’t have a favorite band. I just dig through stuff and find things I like the sound of. 😛 -

@Dragon-Snapper um… keep it to myself. 😛 Trying to explain awesome story ideas or plot twists to non writers just never really works. If it’s just too amazing to not tell anyone, I’ll tell @Emma-Flournoy because even though she’s not a writer herself she understands. 😉 I also write it down in my little pocket notebook. I have at least three…[Read more]

@emma-flournoy Late reply. Sorry.
I think Solomon was that way because of David. I don’t know of any biblical support for this, but the Bible does record instances where someone’s sin was so bad that their kids suffered because of it. I think Solomon suffered in that way. Not being heretical. That’s just my personal opinion.
From a more biblical…[Read more]

@daeus Eric was the bigger hero. But I think that the fact that they used the other guy’s POV more signifies something. Maybe because he’s a better (multi-dimensional) character?

@kate-flournoy Yeah, that’s all just hearsay though. I haven’t even completely watched either movies. So, yeah. At least you enjoyed them. As for the perspective on themes: just remember that most difficult choices are actually two goods. I’ve seen more movies that have choices of two goods rather than two evils. I think it’s because with two…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Happy Thanksgiving to you too! A pet peeve on songwriting crossed my mind a couple days ago. Songs recently have been just so boring. I attribute that to the second and/or third verses. They don’t build on the foundation of the first verse. Because (even though a song may or may not be a story) it has to progress forward in the…[Read more]
