      (thanks for the tag @theducktator )

      @writingwren

      I don’t know a whole lot of YA as it’s not my main reading. But I do know some clean middle grade fiction, and some clean Christian “adult” fiction.

      MG recommendation:

      The Mysterious Benedict Society. While not Christian, it’s Very fun, completely clean action and adventure.

      YA:

      The Drafted duology by Tommie Michele. While it’s not explicitly Christian, it is written by a Christian and emphasizes finding hope in darkness. While there is some romance, it’s completely G-rated.

      Adult:

      Darkness series, Monster, The Oath, all by Frank Peretti. Sometimes dark and intense but all are explicitly Christian.

      Silas Marner: a very sweet story about a ruined man who finds a baby and raises her as his own.

      just some ideas that might be helpful. This is something I struggle with as well and haven’t quite found the fix yet.

        I have to ask. What is the plan with all these pigeons?

        i imagine Paris is insufferable. He’s the dude who kidnapped Helen right?
        (Sigh I need to read the Iliad. I need to find a good translation that’s easy-ish to read. I don’t mind a difficult read but it gets annoying sometimes.)

        I appreciate you letting me live. lol it’s the same thing with cats. I don’t mind them but I’m allergic to them so like…

          Hello there!

          My answers:
          I just like good old chocolate chip pancakes.

          I could carry like- 10 pigeons probably, if some of them didn’t mind being stuffed in hoodie pockets. I might get annoyed with their poop and throw them off a cliff though.

          I would have… hmm. Good question. Fire or lightning. Probably lightning, bc then I could start fires. But then again, I couldn’t control the fires. Oh well. I choose lighting. Pyromania time

          Oh, man. There’s so many. The Joker. Poseidon (Epic the Musical version). Feyd-Rauthua. Etc.

          I have to choose fake Christmas trees but I have a very legitimate reason. If I had a real tree I would physically not survive due to allergies. lol

          I extend all of these questions back to you and you have no choice but to answer. BWAHAHAHA

            @whaley

            I like your description of it as a reimagining rather than an adaptation.

            I loved the movie. Five stars, easily. And I personally liked some of the changes he made to the story/characters.
            for example, making Odysseus faithful to Penelope, whereas in Homer’s Odyssey he has affairs with at least two women on his journey and when he gets home he says, “I think I’ll test her to make sure she’s been faithful to me.” That just really annoyed me lol. (Which is a personal opinion! I’m not saying anything is wrong with people who like the story the way it is.)

            My personal favorite scene in the movie was the Siren sequence. I liked how it affects Odysseus deeply, rather than being a passing obstacle. I also was interested by how Ludwig Gorannson (I probably butchered that spelling lol) carried the motif into other scenes, especially when Odysseus is telling Penelope about the Trojan war.

            One of the biggest deviations from Homer’s poem is also the one I respect most- the removal of the infamous Nobody dialogue. He removed it because it is a pun on the name Odysseus. The name he tells Polyphemus is a shortened version of Odysseus- I believe the transliteration into English would be Odise but I’m not sure- that also translates to Nobody.

            And I have mixed feelings on his alteration of Athena.

              @quicksilverwyvern

              I have watched the movies and read the first 3 books. I love the movies and am not a fan of the books. lol

              my problem with the books is mainly the crudity. Plus they’re just weird lol. I noticed a pattern where someone/something gets swallowed alive in every book XD

                I actually haven’t read Cooper Kids, but my brothers have and they love it. I’m more into his “adult” books, like The Oath, House, and Monster.

                pretty much all chocolate is good lol. I like dark and milk and white and brownies and all of them.

                Ahh yes, the author of Wormwood Abbey, correct? My cousin has been trying to convince me to read it but I haven’t gotten to it.

                  Hey everybody. I see this is a random chat. I thrive on random chats. lol

                  some questions.

                  Anyone here heard of Frank Peretti? I don’t think he gets enough recognition in Christian circles.

                  Who likes chocolate?

                  Christopher Nolan anyone?

                    @ellette-giselle

                    id have to say my favorite character is either Albert (or wait, whoever the guy was who fell in love with Valentine de Villefort, I get the names mixed up) or Edmond himself. What about yours?

                    @quicksilverwyvern

                    Sounds like a cool book! I owe my entire knowledge to a random whim of wondering whether the dragons from HTTYD were actually dragons. (Half of them aren’t, lol)

                      @bilbo-baggins

                      Hello! Yes I am new!

                      I highly recommend the Dune movies, though it might be better to read the book first to kind of- understand it. There’s a lot of lore that the movies skim over.

                      1. That’s easy. Sam.

                      2. Either chocolate, or avocado oil-fried potato chips, or just a good, medium-rare cheeseburger.

                      3. I have one main one. I’m kinda experimenting with horror, modeling after Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker’s book House and also using timeline-twisting elements from Recursion by Blake Crouch. (FYI, that book has a lot of strong language- just a little warning. If you can handle/tune that out, I highly recommend it.) I don’t have a title for it yet, but it involves a world inside a mirror.

                      @hislittlerose

                      i think TCOMC took me a couple months to read, but it was scheduled out with ambleside online (anyone else do that?) so for a long time I could only read it once a week. Which made me sad. Lol

                      as far as a screenplay, I’d love to make a historical epic. Like, about the war between Athens and Sparta, or maybe early Britain. Like during the Roman time.

                        @kashka

                        1. that would depend on if the horse could fly or not.
                        2. they are edible which makes them food. However, chocolate is objectively better.

                        @reaganramm

                        my favorite essay I’ve ever written was about how natural selection fits into a Biblical worldview.
                        I got an email with a list of free resources for Christian young writers. (It was a long time ago and I don’t remember who from lol)

                        @quicksilverwyvern

                        (I appreciate your recognition of wyverns. I don’t think they get enough love and are too overshadowed by dragons.)

                        1. dream style fantasy home. Hmm. Can it be a hobbit hole in a cave? lol

                        2. Favorite vibe is definitely heroic and powerful. Ultra-manly if that counts lol.

                        3. not an exact quote but: “Levran watched his sister calmly sleeping, her golden hair pooled under her head on her pillow. She was so peaceful. More than peaceful. She was pure. A pinprick of the brightest light in a dark world.”

                        @elishivet-pidyon

                        what I look for in a book is mainly that it goes deeper than the surface level of the plot. I like a plot that makes me think to follow it. Which isn’t to say that I don’t like an occasional simple story, but I like for it to have deeper meaning.

                        @ellette-giselle

                        some of my top favorite books are the Lord of the Rings, the Count of Monte Cristo, Frankenstein and Dracula!

                        if I could spend a week with one of my characters it would be Morvid Klent. Think Sam from LOTR if Sam were mixed with Duncan Idaho from Dune.

                        i would want to own hmm. A mace maybe. Or just a really cool sword like Anduril.

                        dragon rider for sure.

                        @stellybean
                        I like i’s better. Mostly because it sounds more scifiish lol.

                        i extend all of these questions to everyone who asked them!

                          Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

                          Yes?

                          No?

                          (The answer is yes.)

                          lol what is everyone’s opinion on the movie?
