The soundtrack is epic.

Yes?
No?
(The answer is yes.)
lol what is everyone’s opinion on the movie?
October 17, 2026 at 11:08 pm #214527I’ve watched the Gerald Butler movie adaptation. I really like! (Phantom is my favorite musical.) The only thing I thought could have been done better was the last song, “Down to the Dungeons.” I feel like the director tried to make the Phantom more “emotional” in that song by having him cry and sound upset, but in my personal opinion that broke the beauty of the music in the last song that carries the emotional depth in the musical rendition of it.
It’s funny, I don’t like either soundtrack better. There are certain pieces I like better from the different playlists. I like the “Overture” and “The Mirror” better from the movie, but like “Down to the Dungeons” and “Phantom of the Opera,” better from the musical playlist.
Anyway, that’s just my opinion. Overall, a really great movie! One of my favorites!
There once was a snail who was depressed and would do anything for his girlfriend. Didn't end well.
October 17, 2026 at 11:16 pm #214530I haven’t seen it, but I’m reading the book this year for school. How accurate is the movie?

October 19, 2026 at 3:29 pm #214553Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
I wrote out a detailed response to this, but my post didn’t go through. 😒 So I’ll try again.
I think it’s a flawed adaptation but a quality modern film. It is very stylistically “Christopher Nolan” which is exactly why it is flawed yet still quality.
As an adaptation, it gets several things wrong – the biggest perhaps being Odysseus’ personality and character arc. Nolan’s version of Odysseus is much softer and doesn’t have that ancient Greek Odysseus edge. He is less clever, less sassy, less full of himself, and as a result learns a lesson which he doesn’t fully deserve. I’d also say that Nolan ruined Athena’s character for the sake of a twist.
You could also get into the nitty-gritty of the Odyssey’s themes, and I’m sure this film didn’t capture the authentic Greek storytelling because today’s moral views are in same ways very different (although not as different as some may believe…).
However. I really, really enjoyed Nolan’s Odyssey. There is some cool stuff in there. Nolan is a good storyteller, especially by modern Hollywood standards, and he deserves his bouquet.
I think this is less an adaptation, and more of a “Nolan’s stylistic reimagining of the Odyssey.” That’s why many people are annoyed, but I think reimaginings are fine. Sure, the Odyssey is a great Western classic, but it is not holy, so there is nothing morally wrong with reimagining it.
I watched it twice in theaters and was not disappointed. It has great pacing, emotional beats, and soundtrack. It was worth my money.

I like your description of it as a reimagining rather than an adaptation.
I loved the movie. Five stars, easily. And I personally liked some of the changes he made to the story/characters.
for example, making Odysseus faithful to Penelope, whereas in Homer’s Odyssey he has affairs with at least two women on his journey and when he gets home he says, “I think I’ll test her to make sure she’s been faithful to me.” That just really annoyed me lol. (Which is a personal opinion! I’m not saying anything is wrong with people who like the story the way it is.)My personal favorite scene in the movie was the Siren sequence. I liked how it affects Odysseus deeply, rather than being a passing obstacle. I also was interested by how Ludwig Gorannson (I probably butchered that spelling lol) carried the motif into other scenes, especially when Odysseus is telling Penelope about the Trojan war.
One of the biggest deviations from Homer’s poem is also the one I respect most- the removal of the infamous Nobody dialogue. He removed it because it is a pun on the name Odysseus. The name he tells Polyphemus is a shortened version of Odysseus- I believe the transliteration into English would be Odise but I’m not sure- that also translates to Nobody.
And I have mixed feelings on his alteration of Athena.
