Trahia the Minstrel started the topic Our Book Premises Nerd Space in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years ago
Okay! Hi! I’ve made this topic so we can all put up the premises of our WIPs or anything else we’ve worked on in the last or are thinking of working on in the future. Hopefully we can all enjoy a huge nerd with each other about all our stories!😊
Here’s the premise I’m working on for my current novel:
A Usurper’s Heir. A True Prince. Two Families,…[Read more] -

Yeah, I can relate to Sunday’s being the only social days!
I’m just thankful I had a huge property to explore and spend time running around in and lots of pets/animals to play with!
Same! I have a protagonist who is 15 going on sixteen. It’s kinda like I write about the MC as if I was them and was put in a different and exciting…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I get ideas from all kinds of places. My first fanfiction was literally inspired by a picture of a boat I saw in a magazine. And I get ideas from dreams all the time, like the one about dinosaurs that were used by police when I had a dream I was at a police station and they had a whole pen of gallimimus dinosaurs to ride. That dream…[Read more]

Agh, yes, I am a big GE fan! I do love the characters you mentioned, but my all-time favorite character is Helmer. HE IS THE BEST!!!! (I’m a big fan of crusty-and-tough-on-the-outside-but-soft-and-sweet-on-the-inside type characters). My favorite lines are pretty much anything Helmer says, but e…[Read more]

This post has stirred me; I cannot be silent. 😉
I totally agree, and no, you don’t sound over cautious to me. As John 1:1-14 makes very clear, His Word is not something to play with, for “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”,”And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,(and we beheld His…[Read more]

I’ll pray you’re not in the waiting stage for too long! I’ve heard that can be stressful 🙂
Those characters always make me smile. Ah, yes. Rebel Faeada XD

Oh, oh, your names are lovely. Hebrew? My sister is learning Hebrew!
Your lines are great! I like Faeda, being short myself. And is Tyroll her older, or younger brother?

@elfwing @trahia-the-minstrel @elanor Thanks, all of you!
Cool facts about CloneWings:
- The spikes of a CloneWing aren’t detachable, unlike those of a similar dragon, the Rebelwhip. (If I can find a good picture of one of those I will!)
- The technical name for this type is the Mandalore Ice Dragon. But the name “CloneWing” caught on when the…

Ok, so now I can’t contain myself. @trahia-the-minstrel, did you say your desert country is Hebrew influenced? (Note gleeful chewing of lip) I’m learning Hebrew. Also, Eirtan is a mix of Celtic, Norse, Kieven Rus and mid-east/isreali culture, so I’m a tad unduly excited. (By the by, that particular letter you mentioned is my personal…[Read more]

@trahia-the-minstrel I decided to move over here because I didn’t want to take up too much space on your introduction topic. You can tag other people for this topic…you know what? @elfwing You were also interested in my dragons, so I’ll tag you too.
So, basically, here I’m going to tell you about the Dragonmen–my [usually Star Wars-derived]…[Read more]

So, I thought it’d be fun to share three of a character’s lines (or however many characters you want to do) that are distinctive to their personalities and could, by themselves, be used to describe your character. Here’s mine:
Character: Catherine Miranda Davis
“The day you come to court me, Rudy Newark, is the day I learn how to use Uncle J…

@elfwing My mom was saying she saw a tiktok video where people were roasting a whole orange on an open fire, and once it had grill marks on it they sliced it open and added brown sugar inside and ate it. Supposedly the combination of sweet and sour, plus the scent of the grilling, is enough to stimulate the area of the brain that can’t smell/taste…[Read more]

@elfwing Awww girll you still don’t have your taste and smell back? Poor thing!! I read several articles online where people were able to get it back by stimulating those areas of their brains! Try picking up random objects and focusing on the way they smell. My grandma lost her taste and smell too, but she can taste salty and sweet things. Maybe…[Read more]

Faith Q. replied to the topic How to know if your book should be a standalone or series? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 1 month ago
Basically what @elfwing said: do what you can comfortably do. If everything fits in a book, great! If it doesn’t, you can add another one, but be careful. Many sequels simply continue the plotline, but all books need to have a beginning, a middle, a climax, and a conclusion. There has to be a sense of satisfaction at the end of one…[Read more]

Basically what @elfwing said. If there’s more story to be told than can reasonably be done in one book, it ought to be a series. I had one planned standalone that ended up turning into a duology because a whole additional plot showed up, as a background thing in the first book but begging to be the focal point of a sequel
I’ve had other series…[Read more]
