This guy sounds fascinating!  His backstory is awesome, and he sounds like a genuine character.  For likeability, you could:

1)  Give the MC and Ridley something in common (a hobby, a genre of music, a favorite food, etc)

2)  like @elfwing said, moments of vulnerability.  That would make the reader open up to him really fast…[Read more]

I am not a very skilled writer compared to most, but I hope i can give you some pointers as I am familiar with emotional scenes (they’re one of my favorite scenes to write!).

But here Kaunon was also great and you could really feel his bravery as he fought the dragons and panic about how Alinna was doing.

Your scene is really interesting. And I could feel the tension between them as Kaunon tried to make Alinna leave without him. And you could also clearly see the love between them. And I love how in this scene girl saves boy. I hope you put out more:)
