Linyang Zhang replied to the topic THE WORLDBUILDING THREAD in the forum Fantasy 2 years, 6 months ago
@denali-christianson I’m glad I’m a relatable person! 😀 Sometimes I think I’m just in the corner doing wack and setting things on fire while all the other writers have their lives together.

@denali-christianson Heh I haven’t had this much stimulation on the forum for ages. For years. I can tell we’re going to have a fun time! In a non-threatening way, of course. *added exclamation mark to sound less threatening*
Oof haha sometimes I get lazy over things but never enough to like, stop doing it. I’m usually overcommited and will stick…[Read more]

@denali-christianson Yes.
UhhhhhhhHHHHHHHH I know @e-k-seaver and @daisy-torres have made book trailers before. If I were you, and had zero budget and wanted to make live action, then I would use like a free stock video site like this one: https://mazwai.com/#/grid (I’ve seen one of my favorite artists make a lot of beautiful music videos using…[Read more]

@denali-christianson I think I’ve given up on worldbuilding at this stage in life, for all my projects now it’s either like, “What generally fits the vibe of this story” if it’s something short or casual, or, “What would make sense in the story and help me achieve the goals of my plot/character arcs/themes” if I’m being serious and hardworking, or…[Read more]

@denali-christianson Lolol precisely why I write, so I can put some new things out onto the market.
Heh it’s okay I stopped because I graduated :3 You should savor your high school activities while you can
Haha this is the first time I’ve like met people who’ve enjoyed my writing online.
And now I’m resisting the urge to plug a self-promo.…[Read more] -

@denali-christianson Haha yeah I feel that. I also feel that nowadays a lot of medieval fantasy feels like a LOTR ripoff.
Yes I really loved ballet! Pity I had to stop.
Aww, thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

@denali-christianson Heheh sci-fi in medieval fantasy is honestly better than regular ol’ medieval fantasy. It’s really quite overdone.
And yah I did ballet instead of figure skating but they’re kinda similar so yeah

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Thinking alone vs talking with others. Which gives you more story ideas? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm Hmm I’m not used to brainstorming with others but sometimes I’ll brainstorm if I’m really really stuck, usually I prefer to get ideas from everywhere around me and letting it simmer in my head into something coherent. Maybe because I’m not used to telling other people about my ideas XD And they’ll probably not understand the end vibe I want.

@denali-christianson Aw haha thanks! Yeah, I’ve been ghosting the KP forum a lot lately, idk why. Busy writing, I ‘spose.
Hmm, short stories and novels are probably my favorite, and if it’s a mix of fantasy and crime and time travel or something mind-bending it’s really fun, haha.
Oh, you know, I decided to follow in the sensible path of a…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Has a song ever inspired a story, scene, or character? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm Yes, definitely! There’s too many to count, haha. But a couple I can remember:
- Bird Song by Florence and the Machine
- Gasoline by Brand New, covered by Falling Up
- Daylight by Northern Abbey
I’ve tried starting some based off of them, but usually I just write down the ideas and keep it for later. Too many ideas, too little time.

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic How Do You Turn a Spark Into a Blaze? in the forum Plotting 2 years, 7 months ago
Ah yes, right on cue for me today, wanting to write a whole novel with nothing but an idea for the villain. I can feel the general vibe of the thing. I heard a song lyric today that I want to incorporate into the plot. I know nothing else.
I think generally I’ll feel for how long the work will be, like a short story, novella, or novel,…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Do your characters tend to be more extraverted or introverted? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm I feel like I usually plan for characters to be a little more reserved but they end up being more extraverted to keep the story moving along and the scene interesting, haha. I always need a bit more dialogue.

@lydia-s Nice, nice! I’m quite in love with Steinbeck and Dostoyvesky, throw in some Ray Bradbury and Dickens here and there, and there are so many more titles I’ve been meaning to read. Your literature program sounds fun! I’ve been meaning to take one at some point, haha.

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic How do you draft/write the "first" document? in the forum General Writing Discussions 2 years, 8 months ago
@godlyfantasy12 Usually I write a beginning, and then I start working on an outline/plot/characters, and usually after I have the outline for all the chapters done, or most of them, enough to keep me busy for a while, I just starting writing each chapter one by one.
