I haven’t listened to much musical theater, however the scores I have heard I really enjoyed! Do you have a favorite musical?
Ah, John Williams is the guy. I don’t think I know a single person that doesn’t enjoy at least some of his work. Him, and John Powell are probably my favorite movie score composers. Do you…[Read more]

Have you ever written a sad ending to a story? Why?
I have written quite a few bitter-sweet endings, but I have yet to write a tragic one. However the novel I’m writing now, looks to be going in that “tragic ending” direction, but I’m pretty sure it’ll end up more as a bitter-sweet ending like most of my stories. For me the ending is always…[Read more]

Hi! Welcome to KP!
I just gotta say first off that Miyanna is a really pretty name. Kinda sounds like the name of the lead female protagonist of a fantasy novel, haha.
I love music and acting as well! Particularly music, as I’ve only been in one play, but both can be so exciting despite being so different.
If you…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Have you ever written a story that took place in your hometown? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 6 months ago
You should totally try sometime, it’s really fun.
As for a twist, we made the cities post-apocalyptic. We of course did it for the story, but the post-apocalyptic vibe ended up really fitting with the cities we grew up in, particularly Cincinnati lol.
Who knew writing about a broken and corrupted version of a place you used to live…[Read more]

Have you ever written a story that took place in your hometown?
This is a question I am curious about because a couple of my siblings and I are currently writing a novel that takes place in the cities we grew up in, (Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dublin Ohio). And it has kinda confirmed my belief that as fun as writing about totally new places,…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Themes! and Messages! and Plots!? OH, MY!! in the forum General Writing Discussions 2 years, 6 months ago
Yes! You illustrated my point perfectly. Delving into the core of the theme (such as Good Vs Evil) through questions demonstrated throughout the book, opens up many different but related themes that expands on the original theme’s message.
Themes are really cool in that way. I really like how you explained it in your post!

Kathleen replied to the topic Themes! and Messages! and Plots!? OH, MY!! in the forum General Writing Discussions 2 years, 6 months ago
It seems like you already nailed down your theme with your description of what the book is about.
It’s ultimately a journey about finding one’s family and embracing yourself.
Found family and embracing yourself seems like the main two themes of your story.
And about your question on multiple themes, pretty much every story has mul…[Read more]

Thinking alone vs talking with others. Which gives you more story ideas?
I’ve gotten many story ideas by doing both, as probably most of us have, but if I had to choose one where I get more ideas, it would probably be thinking alone. It’s very close to a tie for me since I get so many story ideas from discussions both related to writing and not…[Read more]

Has a song ever inspired a story, scene, or character?
This is something I’ve always wanted to do and also shocked that I haven’t done it yet as I pretty much listen to music 24/7.I think I have gotten quite a few ideas for characters, scenes, stories, and such from music, sometimes from the lyrics but often from the overall feeling the song g…[Read more]

A desk job has never seemed more enticing. I guess my dream of becoming a advertising street sign holder will have to die. Its a so sad, but I must do it for the arts…
But in any sense, thanks for the tips! I will definitely be using them.
As for your question about what rhymes with orange, it’s Sporange. An uncommon, but very real…[Read more]

Do your characters tend to be more extraverted or introverted?
I’d like to say that I have a pretty good mix of both, as the contrast between characters adds nice dynamics, but after a little thought it might not be as equal as I thought. When I first started writing, most of my characters were more on the extraverted side, but since then it’s k…[Read more]

Woah. I thought I had written a lot of sibling relationships, but I can honestly say you’ve beaten me.
And yeah, two friends so close they could be brothers pretty much counts as brothers in my eyes.
Since you have written many brother relationships, have you written any sister relationships in your stories? And if you…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Find my characters Want/Goal in the forum Characters 2 years, 8 months ago
Well, one option would be that his goal is to confess to his crush or find a way for his crush to confess to him. Depending on what kind of guy he is.
Another option would be that his goal is to get away from his father. Whether that be earning enough money to buy a place away from his home, or to run away.
He could have both…[Read more]
