“Sort of have. What, should I be afraid of you?” George pushed her hat brim up so she could size Lucian up. Her eyes narrowed into dark slits.

Lucian seemed like a quiet sort of person. Not loud or obnoxious. George could tolerate some people, like him, as long as they didn’t get in the way or catch her in a bad mood.
She might have to learn to tolerate everyone here, though. Not just from a distance. That wasn’t a fun thought.
She got up from brushing the horse’s legs and threw the soft brush in Lucian’s direction. “Think fast.”

“She’s a Maine Coon.”
The cat began to close her eyes, but one of the horses let out a loud whinny, and the cat took offense. She flicked an ear grumpily, got up, and padded back to the boy and girl. She tensed her back haunches and leaped onto George’s back.
Luckily the stablehand had strong shoulders, wide enough to support such a pet. The cat draped herself over the stablehand’s back, like a giant fur coat, and closed her eyes.
George took the comb to Onyx’s front legs. She asked over her shoulder, “Got a name?”

“No. But I’m on duty today and I told the others I didn’t want them around.” George motioned vaguely towards the boy’s feet. “My cat doesn’t like everyone. You must be nice or interesting.”

Moth
They entered the archery range and Moth recognized most of what he saw – or, at the very least, could guess what things were for.
The range stretched on and gave room for plenty of boys to practice shooting all at once. Arrows were already flying. A satisfying thwacking sound went off at regular intervals; the arrows buried themselves in targets and vibrated slightly before their flight lost its power.

Idk, tbh. I think my world has different kinds of foods that are normal but to u they are weird. I’ve eaten live squid before. I like eating live seafood. Is that crazy?

George opened the stall door. She gave the mare a strong series of pats, then brushed a hand along the mare’s side, making sure the animal knew where the human was at all times. Spooking a new horse was a surefire way to get kicked.
Onyx’s coat already shone, catching the same glow that lit the stall’s wood grain walls. George got to work with a curry comb. Golden dust motes swirled in the air.
The prince kept out of the way, just as he had promised. He seemed content to stay quiet and share a snack with his pet. George snuck a few glimpses of him, but it was probably best not to get between him and a peaceful moment.
Taking care of royal steeds was a strange job. It was the same as any other stable job, but instead of helping out other normal people, the stable hands served influentials. Political influentials, industry influentials, cultural influentials. Some of these people had never been to a place like the academy in their lives, while there were others who already came from country estates.
George honestly liked the academy students. In a weird, observational sort of way. They were curious to watch from a distance. Even though they were so important, she couldn’t name any of them but one. That was the result of moving out of the suburbs and living in the country for so long.
George’s cat wandered in the open door. The cat had no fear of stables and massive animals, for she was a massive animal herself. Rugged, and almost twice the size of a normal barn cat, she owned a thick coat of dark fur. Tufts of fur adorned her ears.
She stopped next to the prince, blinked her lazy eyes, and began rubbing herself against his leg.
