<p>I finally got swords in my novel! Well&#8230;.they&#8217;re practice blunts, but I got to write the word &#8220;sword&#8221; so I&#8217;m pretty happy.</p>
<p>But I don&#8217;t know how to teach someone to use it. Has anyone ever written a scene where your MC is taught to use a sword? Because I am rather clueless.</p>

He wrote the Promise of Zion series, which is historical fiction about the Jews after WWII, another historical fiction series about Australia (which I haven&#8217;t read and I don&#8217;t know the title), and a sci fi trilogy called the Shadowside Trilogy (I think).</p>

A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Those are kinda contemporary fantasy (the MC can see angels and demons) Black also has two other series; Knights of Arrethtrae and the Kingdom series. Both Christian clean fantasy. My advice would be to find very creative ways for the characters to use their powers, besides the standard combat. I think they are only cliche if you have the protagonist and antogonist (or the two main protagonists) have <em>opposing</em> powers, such as fire and ice. If they have powers that don&#8217;t really clash, such as fire+earth and wind+water like my MCs do, it isn&#8217;t as overused.
