Here’s the next section! Please tell me if there’s anything that feels superficial or unrealistic. (Raegan, if you haven’t already, you might want to read all the previous posts starting on page one to get caught up)
One afternoon Mama asked me to walk to town for a few things from the store, and as I…[Read more]

That’s great that they don’t bother him too much! It took my brother some time to get used to, because he’s more sensitive to needles. I still can’t imagine being a three-year-old though and trying to understand what’s going on.

That’s good! Does he do okay with needles?

I haven’t done a good job of staying up to date on here, but I feel you. Public school is a rough environment, and especially in your case where you don’t have many options to choose from as far as friends go.
I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t have any close friends. In middle school, I had a close friend, and then…[Read more]

I don’t know if you could use this in your story at all, but I had a dream one time about some of the characters in a book I was reading, and in my dream, the main enemy somehow was slowly dying of a deadly disease but didn’t tell anyone about it, to make the protagonists think he was still perfectly healthy when he was not. I think my…[Read more]

I don’t share my writing with my family, either. A while ago (like back in middle school) I would write stories about a fictional family, based off of my family, and re-tell my family’s vacations that way. I let my brothers read some of those, and they were criticizing it left and right, so I stopped letting them read my writing.
I agree…[Read more]

Liliana
As Emmy slipped away from the table, Liliana’s eyebrow rose in curiosity. Where was she going? It was time to eat; the servants would be bringing out the food at any moment. A sharp pain in her shin brought her attention to Adeline, seated next to her.
“It’s not polite to raise your eyebrow,”…[Read more]

Trailblazer replied to the topic Most Common Character Traits? in the forum Characters 1 year, 1 month ago
I also have way more female characters than male (MCs that is). I’m sort of in the same boat, I think I’m just afraid of not portraying male characters correctly.
I also agree, I think our culture has so skewed the roles of men and women and the family unit that for us, as Gen Z, it’s hard to know how to portray them…[Read more]

Is it the kind of thing that you have to practice at home, too?

Do you enjoy it? I’ve never taken karate and probably won’t ever, but it sounds interesting enough.

Adeline
As the guests began settling themselves into seats, Adeline took a seat with Liliana and the two McKinley girls. The buzz around the hall dropped to silence as Mr. Baumann stood in front of everyone. A frown flickered across his face briefly as he scanned the room, but he…[Read more]

Yay, we’re back!
I literally just created a whole new family of characters lol. I might end up turning it into an actual story if I feel like it.

These are good questions!
So number one, what do you dislike about a lot of contemporary? (especially ones with teenagers and younger adults)
This might just be me, but I don’t like stories that are super gooey and romantic, or at least stereotyped romance that’s not realistic. Don’t get me wrong- I enjoy a good romance, but when that’s…[Read more]

I know I’m sorta butting in on your conversation, but I wanted to add something here.
and I feel like God wants me to write contemporary right now, but it’s kind of hard since everyone expects writers to write the next dystopian or fantasy and I feel like it will just bore people
If God is asking you to write a contemporary story, then t…[Read more]

I can decipher the pig latin (that is pig latin, right?) but I don’t have morse code memorized. I went through what I like to call my “detective phase” a number of years ago and learned a whole bunch of codes. Raegan, if you read the string of words from right to left instead of left to right, it’ll make a little more sense. Take…[Read more]

Hmmm. I feel like I’ve been pretty intentional with creating characters that have different hair/eye colors, but I haven’t strayed outside the realm of browns/blonds/reds, etc. Like you wouldn’t see any of my characters with pink or blue or green hair, although maybe I should do that sometime to spice things up. Brown, or different shades of…[Read more]
