That’s no fun! I remember being sick over Christmas before, too. Stomach bugs are the worst though….

As chaos ensued, Kari drew her sword. She knew she’d probably have to use it at some point, but now, in the heat of the moment, she wondered if she would be good enough to stay alive. Minimal practice had given her the ability to defend…[Read more]

K, I got some more for ya!
Mama made me rest over the next few days. I felt bad, leaving all the chores to her, but she recruited George and Abe to help out whenever they could. I appreciated the time to think and pray. My leg was still in pain when I walked, but several times I limped outside to the…[Read more]

Was this going to be the first chapter? I’m assuming if it’s not, that we would have already know a bit more about the family/characters, but there were a couple places I noticed that weren’t super clear about who a certain person was.
She was messing with Jason’s hat as Colton approached.
For example, right here, I had no idea who J…[Read more]

@everyone
I’m still here… I know I’ve been pretty quiet lately but I’ve been busy. I’m gonna try to involve Kari a little bit more when I have another chance to RP tomorrow afternoon.

Let me know if anything in this scene feels too cliche! I think you’ll like it.
Nearing the end of July, we were spending a Sunday afternoon at the Culliver’s. Etta and Chester were there; it was the first time they’d joined us all since I’d begun talking to them again.
After eating lunch, Oscar and M…[Read more]

It was a dry, dry summer. The crops suffered, and Pa worried that they wouldn’t grow to full height in time to produce. There was also the constant fear of prairie fires. Some nights the horizon glowed orange, from the wild, consuming flames miles away.
I finally found the courage to talk to C…[Read more]

Okkkk this is one of my favorite scenes I’ve written thus far!
May 1887
I knew Albert would be coming home soon, at least, that had been his plan when he left a year ago. Not that I’d heard anything from him since he had gone. I didn’t know exactly when he was coming back, until one Sunday I saw him sit…[Read more]

Yes, but they probably would have called it courting back then. That’s why Libbie was so upset with Etta to start off with, because Etta started seeing Chester without telling her what was going on. And Etta had already known that Libbie had a crush on Chester.

Here ya go, while I’m here I might as well give you more.
As the winter thawed into spring, I knew it was time to make things right. I crossed the fields to the Cullivers’ house, and as I approached, I saw Etta’s petite figure working in the garden. She didn’t hear me coming until I was about ten feet away.
“Good day, Et…[Read more]

Does Kari have a weapon of any kind that she would have been given? I know there was some minimal training, or at least, they planned to. I don’t remember if that ended up happening or if the fire diverted everything.

If any of you have ideas of plot twists I could add, or events that could happen in the story, I’d love to hear them. I feel like I keep running out of new ideas, but I want to strengthen my story and the characters. Maybe I just need to go read some more historical fiction from this time period lol.
