@Daeus Sorry I didn’t respond until now. I was at a drama workshop all day. 🙂
I suggested Sign of Four because it was the only Sherlock Holmes novel haven’t read yet. However, if the people who haven’t read Sherlock Holmes think reading Sign of Four would be confusing as it isn’t the first novel in the series, then let’s read A Study in…[Read more]

Thanks, @hannah-c ! Good luck to you too.
So far, I’ve written 1,544 words. Writing has been kinda slow since I still need to finish organizing my notes and read over my prewriting before I can really go forward with it, but I should have that finished within the next couple of days.
How are things going with the rest of you and your…[Read more]

@spradlin Orwell is obviously telling us that bacon bars are intrinsically unamerican.
As far as responses, I don’t know if there is a good example, though I think Boxer means well. He seems to have good principles but is just too easily manipulated by propaganda.
There was another thing I noticed that was writing related. Orwell said in one…[Read more]

Thanks @spradlin. 🙂
@dbhgpdreigns Exactly. I was thinking it sounded like the Hitler Youth, too, but pretty much every totalitarian society begins by brainwashing the kids.
@overcomer I do agree that pigs aren’t the smartest people, but I think Orwell used then as a metaphor; dictators=pigs. I do think that there is a lack of intelligent…[Read more]

@spradlin Great questions once again! I’ve always believed that it is the duty of the writers to remind the people of their country what is true and alert them to potential dangers- basically, to encourage people to think. Author Harriet Beecher Stowe perhaps did more to fight slavery than Lincoln or any other lawmaker. As to an allegory of the…[Read more]
