@devastate-lasting Thank you! To sum it up in a sentence, my WIP’s about two brothers, retainers to an exiled ruler, who have to save the nation from evil creatures while also dealing with a civil war. It’s been great creating different character dynamics and relationships that comes out in the dialogue, but I’ve got my work cut out for me when it…[Read more]

@scoutfinch180 Just remember (because I’m still learning this myself) u don’t have to follow what everyone says. Make your book the way u want it! It’s yours! Some ppl are against prologues but I felt my book needed one, because the first chapter just wasn’t gonna cut it and I think it works wonderfully!
So just try it out! If u find it’s no…[Read more]

Fake deaths….hmmm. Can’t say I’ve ever written one, but I think I can give some tips.
You can kinda do it in multiple ways.
1. They faked their own death. For some reason. Maybe it was the only way Fabian could get his message out? Or perhaps he thought it would help protect himself or someone else? If u go this route, whe…[Read more]

@scoutfinch180 Oh wow…Andrew would rather be brainy.
Would your character rather have to live a year in repeat or have a horrid year every year?

Oooh very interesting!!
So for Fabian, if you’re going to kill him off, make sure it has meaning and reason, so as not to make your reader feel cheated. Sounds like he has quite a bit of internal conflict going on. Basically, what I took from that, is he’s a hero who looks and feels like a monster, and because of that believes he…[Read more]

Yeah, I really LOVE reading spy fiction when it’s done right, that is. Wow that’s awesome!!!!!!!!!! Sci-fi is a genre I’ve been REALLY wanting to try out!!!! My novel made it to 69K. My goal had been 70K so I made it pretty close!!!!!!! Nice to meet you!!!!!!

Hi, @issawriter7!
I am @ScoutFinch180.
Your books sounds so cool! I have never dabbled in spy-fiction, do you enjoy reading it? I personally also write speculative fiction and am working on a sci-fi short story.
How long do you want your novel to be?

Hey, so has anyone ever written a mystery? Or close to one? Or a murder lol. The first book of my series is a bit of a fantasy murder mystery, but I think it’d be better if it’s a closed room murder. So that means it seems no one else was with the victim except the suspect (who is actually inn…[Read more]

So I got Sally, my first beagle about 2 or 3 years back. Then we got Jack her companion, and they had pups! We kept 2 pups and got rid of dad, and then later got rid of one of the pups.
(my parents and brothers have 2 dogs. One is one of Sally’s babies)
So now I have 2 fur babies who I adore!! My sally and her Daughter (who was p…[Read more]

Haven’t really worked on it. Just been giving myself some time away because I haven’t felt like working on it and I know I’m gonna wanna hit the ground running in January.
And my beagles are good! That day I said we were bringing them in we had a scare with Sally, our first beagle (and momma to our other one Raven). She got a pie…[Read more]

@scoutfinch180 Yes she does and while they do meet, my MC still doesn’t truly know who she is. I don’t think I’m gonna have them really meet face to face until book 3. They’ll meet, but only for seconds at a time or in Corvina’s other form (she’s a shapeshifter)

Thank you so much! So in this first one she’s not quite as prevalent, but I needed this prologue to really begin the story and so when u do finally see her or realize who she is you’ll already know and be connected to her. As the series progresses she’s going to get more and more scenes, but in this first one she not quite as preva…[Read more]

@scoutfinch180, I’m afraid not. I’m more of a fantasy girl myself although I have been recently thinking about a mix of Sci-if and Fantasy idea I have.
Aa for map making, I’d definitely take a look at a site called Inkarnate. For the full version u can pay 5 bucks a month, but even the free version is great u just don’t get all the sticker…[Read more]

It’s really fun to see how each of us likes to describe our writing process. And although we each have our own unique spin on the three words, there’re also a lot of interesting similarities. As Gracie pointed out, we all tend to procrastinate, get distracted easily, be…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic What's the most recent book/movie you read/watched that has inspired you? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 11 months ago
I always hear about people being inspired by C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, but rarely do I get to hear about books that have inspired them! I’m definitely going to have to check Phantastes out. I love books that execute symbolism well, and also the original books where the cliches of today came from.

I love Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! I also like The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Hamilton, and Phantom of the Opera.
Oh, well, uh, *glances at 20 page layout of my novel* I’d be lying if I said no! *laughs awkwardly*

Hey @scoutfinch180
I guess I’m one of the few older members of KP lol.
With my fantasy story, I’m just at the point where the quest is about to begin, the only problem is that I have a massive writer’s block, which I believe is due to my lack of fiction reading. I spend a lot of my time reading scientific journals, research articles and…[Read more]
