Alexa Autorski replied to the topic To edit or not to edit… in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
Like Jenna said, I would recommend editing the first book before moving on to the sequel. I myself am writing a trilogy, and while I’ve outlined (loosely) all three books, I’m going to completely edit them one at a time before moving onward. That way, if you get new ideas or want to tweak the storyline a bit, you have the freedom to…[Read more]

I’d recommend editing it before you move on to book two, because sometimes with editing things change around with the plot and characters and it’d be easier to have those things at least somewhat set in stone before moving on to the next book than to have to do even more editing with the second book. It may have been confusing the way I…[Read more]

@writerlexi1216 @jodi-maile @relia
Thank you all so much!! I suppose the main thing that I want critiqued is the main character, Ember. That’s she’s likable enough, I suppose. Also, I haven’t written in 1st person before, and I just want to be sure that everything is clear in that person. Oh, and there’s a sword fight in chapter 3, and I haven’t…[Read more]

Awesome!!! I’d love to learn elven.
Oh, that’s fascinating! I bet I’d really enjoy reading that.
Right. I feel like I should read it eventually, due to its status as a classic. 😛
Grrr, that’s so sad!!! 🙁

Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
That’s a really good question… As much as I want to write full-time (which is pretty much what I do now), I think having other jobs is a good way to gain experience in different areas.

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@relia Another job, because I feel like maybe, just maybe if I had to do writing as work then I might hate it.

SeekJustice replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@relia I’d choose to have another job as well, either as a dog trainer or a speech pathologist. I love writing, but it could never be more of a side job for me. I’m a hands on person and I would need to be out in the world in order to actually write good things.

Jodi Maile replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
I would write and choose to have another job. I’m a firm believer that you won’t have many good experiences to write about if you don’t go and experience them in the first place. Having another job can introduce you to new tasks, new team dynamics, and new personalities to observe and learn from. Also, having another (interesting) job can…[Read more]

Hey, these are just hilarious. XD Enjoyed reading them. But like each one is good in some way. It makes me realise how anything badly written can be fixed and made beautiful! 🙂

I love Tolkien and Lewis! In my humble opinion, Tolkien was one of, if not the best fiction writer of the twentieth century. Just the number of languages and dialects he came up with is mind-boggling. If I can become a fraction of the writer he was, I will be one happy girl. 😛

@relia I’m not British, so if there’s any Britishers on here, please feel free to tell me I’m an idiot.
Anyway, I’m Australian and we tend to swear a lot and very similarly to British people, for obvious reasons. “Bl**dy” (censoring because I don’t know everyone on here’s personal views on certain words), h**l and d*mn are all pretty “low level”…[Read more]

This is very random, but when y’all are writing and you get stuck at a scene, do you make yourself keep working on it so you stay in order? Or do you sort of jump to the next scene that interests you so you can keep up your momentum?

Hi! Welcome to the KP forum! I’m Lydia.

@relia Thanks for the advice! Foreshadowing would be involved for sure, but not enough to ruin the surprise for the reader. I will most likely flesh out her character just…[Read more]
