For the last several weeks, we’ve had some, how shall we say, “challenges”? with our web server. We’ve been working diligently with our hosting provider to isolate and resolve the issue, but it has been, how shall we say, “challenging?” 🙂

They give you an advance, yes, but you have to give that back if you don’t sell enough copies. Plus, you make SUCH a smaller percentage of every book that is sold.
On top of that, Traditional publishers just don’t promote books like they used to, because most books actually lose them money. They instead focus all of their efforts on those authors and books they KNOW will make them money.
So even if you Traditionally publish, a lot of the work for promotion and building an audience falls to you…
But then you have to wonder…
If you’re already needing to build an audience and promote on your own…why not just self-publish and keep A LOT more of the profits for yourself?

It’s considered one of the greatest love stories of all time but it’s not a love story, and it’s not great.
It’s really just a story about the two most unbelievably selfish and stupid teenagers of all time. It’s also just cheesy.
But I guess one could say it does a decent job of being a cautionary tale of what can happen to you if you are unbelievably selfish and stupid at the same time. So you can be one or the other, but definitely not both at the same time.

@jenwriter17 Yes every election is important, and we shouldn’t fret about who is the president, but Trump completely broke the Left.They are now suggesting extremely radical changes to our government that would completely change our country.
– They’re talking about adding justices to the Supreme Court, essentially turning them into a super legislature for the Left.
– Abolishing the philabuster so that the minority party in congress has even less power.
– Adding D.C. and Puerto Rico as states so that they can permanently get 4 more senators and completely disrupt the political balance
– Abolishing the electoral college, which would mean that New York and California would essentially decide every election going forward.
Not saying they could make all or any of these come to pass, but what they are proposing would basically make it extremely difficult for another conservative/republican to ever be elected again.

I sing by necessity but I don’t really consider myself a singer since I don’t particularly like my voice and don’t think that I’m very good. Here’s an example.Â

@Leon-fleming Thanks! And that’s cool you’ve written some songs too! And I can totally understand the struggle of finding the time. It’s definitely been hard for me to keep up with both music and writing.

And by micro-genre I mean you want to get really niched down as far as what genre your music falls into.
If you try to target fans of piano music for example, you’re a very small fish in a very big pond, and even if you are discovered, your music isn’t as likely to resonate.
Instead you want to dig deeper, and find a genre within a genre within a genre to locate the people who are most likely to be your die-hard fans.
This same concept actually applies to building an author career as well.
To give a real life example, the umbrella genre for our music is “Electronic”, but that’s way too big.
Inside of that genre we fall into the “Synthpop” genre, and then further still into “Synthwave”, and then finally ending up at what I call “Sci-fi & Fantasy-Inspired Popwave”.
“Popwave” is an actual micro-genre, and then the “sci-fi and fantasy-inspired” part is our unique twist. It’s what sets us apart.
