@mineralizedwriting
I haven’t read the Story Embers books, but I’ve always loved the movie. Like you mentioned, it always had this mystery and “awe” feeling surrounding the whole world and story.
It’s interesting how you bring up the sequels being a let down, as I think creativity plays a part in why so many sequels fail to hold candle to the…[Read more]

Totally! Look forward to reading your thoughts.
“Not that a story about a space rabbit that can make trombone noises can’t be interesting if written well, but simply that you’ll often find at this point that everything else has been sacrificed to make the story unique. This isn’t creativity at all, but the oppos…

Thank you for your response!
I must admit that I have limited knowledge about Mormonism and its principles and history, so I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and perspective on the subject.
I guess the whole concept of Mormonism is hard for me to grasp because it just doesn’t make sense to me on a fundamental level. God…[Read more]

“The painter has the universe in his mind and hands.” Leonardo da Vinci
I’ve recently been inspired to write about and discuss with you guys the “creative” part in “creative writing”. So here it goes.
Ever since I had learned how to read and jumped into the world of fiction, my main disappointment and annoyance came from how boring and pre…[Read more]

idk man, just by characters alone I feel like this is going to be the novel of the year.
Also, I hope nothing bad happens to Harold. He seems like a cool guy.

Hey, so I know I’m interjecting a bit into this conversation, but since I saw you talking about The Church of Latter Day Saints (or Mormonism) I was wondering if I could ask a few nagging questions I have about it.
Mainly about this Joseph Smith guy, and more specifically his legitimacy. Since the whole Church of Latter Day…[Read more]

Hello Everyone!
I got some questions about what the forum guidelines are, and although we have a page regarding guidelines under the “Community” tab on the site, I thought it would be helpful to also have a pined post right here on the forum to make it more easily assessable.
This will also make it so that there is a place for people to ask any…[Read more]

I find doing a character brain dump helps a lot with fleshing out who this character is within my mind while also helping me get ideas going. So like taking a few pieces of paper, and without restriction or too much thought, freely writing down anything and everything that comes into my head about this character.
Appearance,…[Read more]

The thing that gives me the most and best plot ideas is really getting to know the story’s main characters. Like really getting to know them. Knowing them to the point to which they feel like real breathing people.
Get to know their dreams, fears, greatest loves, biggest regrets, the most consequential moments of their life, their…[Read more]

@lydia-s I went to Pennsylvania and lay on the grass and looked at the stars for a while a few days ago so that felt like rehab XD
Still suffering a little, trying to figure out writing things before work starts

Your friends might be on to something. The words choices and flow of the poem has such an enthralling, I don’t know… texture to it?
Something about the poem feels so alive and playful. I really like it. Especially the last three lines. They are perfection.

Yo, this looks really cool! I have much respect to writers who create maps for their worlds, as its something I still aspire to do, haha.
If I had any suggestions it would to maybe make the names of each of the places on the map unique to your own world, history, and cultures.
Names like “Greenwood” and “Snowy Mountains” could be…[Read more]
