@elishavet-pidyon Ah, main characters are always a struggle for me too. I tend to develop them as I’m writing, so I don’t tend to know who they are until I start.
Yeah, I’m really busy right now too with school. School makes everything rough.

@koshka Ah, I won’t say my church, but we basically did Bible quizzing through a program called AWANA, not sure if you’ve heard of it. I live up in the New England area, so our paths probably haven’t crossed.
I write urban fantasy, eastern fantasy, anything but high fantasy. I tend to combine crime and fantasy, so a lot of my stories (well,…[Read more]

@trahia-the-minstrel Haha, that meme is quite true. I love the author’s works a lot, especially Silver Spoon.
The Promised Neverland has some horror elements (spoiler: it’s basically about a bunch of kids that raised on farms to be eaten by monsters) and it does get gory at times. The manga is much better than the anime. I haven’t watched the…[Read more]

@koshka Hey there! Late welcome to our Kingdom of Pen! I’m usually one of the early greeters but I don’t think I’ve welcomed anyone in a long time due to school, hhh…
I’m Linyang, but everyone here calls me Lin, and I enjoy writing crime and fantasy. I was homeschooled as well, and I did a ton of Bible quizzing as a kid. Honestly, I can totally…[Read more]

@elishavet-pidyon What about you? What are you currently working on?

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Our Book Premises Nerd Space in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years ago
@elishavet-pidyon I’ll do this for my current WIP so I can better write it. Thanks for asking me stuff!
My main character is Joey Garcia, a 24 year old worker at a store. I think his struggle throughout the book is to find reason to do something as well as how best to convince someone to give himself up. He’ll probably accomplish both of these…[Read more]

@anatra23 Big thanks to @trahia-the-minstrel for putting out content warnings here; about FMAB; it does get pretty dark, actually, but I feel like if you watch Jujutsu Kaisen you can probably watch the bulk of most anime, considering that Jujutsu Kaisen is rated TV-MA here in the US but FMAB is rated TV-14. Common sense media is a good place to…[Read more]

@calidris The fandom is scary as heck but I love the manga art style and the characters and how they portray authors as characters and the worldbuilding and I also have been playing the mobile game for almost two years and–
*cough cough* The fandom is. Very. I don’t like the fandom.

@anatra23 Ay, for comedy/slice of life I recommend:
- Barakamon
- Yotsuba&!
- Way of the Househusband
And for fantasy/adventure:
- Fullmetal Alchemist (if you’re only going to watch the anime watch the Brotherhood version)
- The Devil is a Part-Timer!
- Bungou Stray Dogs
Me, looking over my lists: I could have sworn there was way more I need…[Read more]

@anatra23 Finally, my field of expertise.
I have heard of all of these! I’ve read several volumes of Horimiya and Your lie in April was my first anime. For a complete list of my read and watched anime, you may consult myanimelist here: https://myanimelist.net/profile/xiajiao

@kathleenramm Writing has allowed me to appreciate different forms of story more. While more things may seem mediocre now, I can also truly better appreciate the highest forms of literary art, such as classic lit, as well as extremely well done movies. Yes, being a writer ruins some things because now I can predict the plot. But when I can’t…[Read more]

What’s an unexpected benefit you got from writing?
For me an unanticipated benefit from writing was becoming a more empathetic person. It seems kinda obvious now, but yeah, creating and writing people who are completely different from yourself really changes how you look at people.Having to put yourself in their mind and understand why they are…[Read more]

Yeah, I agree that a lot of portrayals of the Robin Hood justified stealing. However, now I’m really curious about the original story and if it actually does that. Did you read the original version? Because the theme of “is stealing ever justified” could be a really interesting topic to explore in a novel. As it could delve into both…[Read more]

Life and school can be so overwhelming. Sometimes if feels like there’s an heavy weight on your shoulders at all times and you can never catch a breath. And no, your post didn’t come off as complaining at all! It just isn’t realistic to never talk about things that aren’t so positive. It’s good to talk about what you are struggling with.…[Read more]

Ah, yeah, learning more about mythology and history can really change your perspective on things.
And as much as I like Narnia, I always lean towards Tolkien as well. I love his worldbuilding and writing style, and yeah like you said his originality when it comes to both mythology and story. So many people have tried to replicate it,…[Read more]

That’s kinda funny, because that’s the same opinion Tolkien had on Lewis’s work! Tolkien also didn’t like The Chronicles of Narnia very much because the mythology didn’t make sense.
Although I love The Chronicles of Narnia, I get why it wouldn’t settle right for some people. It does do a lot of crazy things with mythology that might…[Read more]

Despite not having read Ingleside (I have only read the first Anne of Green Gables book) I thoroughly related to your frustrations in your post.
One of my pet peeves in books are characters who makes dumb decisions simply for plot convenience. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally fine with characters who make mistakes, but the…[Read more]
