Issabelle Perry replied to the topic A Little Help, Please? in the forum Historical 2 years, 9 months ago
Ah historical fiction is one of my absolute FAVORITE genres, so I’m more than happy to provide a few recs. 🙂
Within These Lines by Stephanie Morrill. It’s a book set in the USA in World War II about the Japanese internment camps. It’s a really emotional and touching/moving story and I can’t recommend it…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic So….does anyone else have any advice on how to jump my book sales? in the forum Questions and Support 2 years, 10 months ago
@wilder-w So exciting! Here are some of the most important things in my opinion for promoting your book: 1) a website, 2) a newsletter/email list, 3) social media.
Think of your website as your “home base.” This is where you want to direct more traffic to, because there people will learn more about your book/whatever you’re selling, how to buy it…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic How to make a side character more interesting? in the forum Characters 2 years, 11 months ago
@joy-caroline Something I try to remember when I’m working on side characters is that they are the main character of their own story. Even if they don’t have a POV in the story, they will have their own values, goals, motives, etc. in the story. I love working on their backstory, because it’s usually then that I discover their internal conflict…[Read more]

E. K. Seaver replied to the topic Have you ever written a story that took place in your hometown? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 12 months ago
@kathleenramm
I actually started working on one about human experimentation in which the characters escaped and made their way to Charleston, SC (one of the places I grew up) but I dropped the story because I didn’t end up liking it.I also read one set in Charleston where there was absolutely zero research done of where things are. It was funny.

Issabelle Perry replied to the topic Themes! and Messages! and Plots!? OH, MY!! in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years ago
@maryg3 Hey, Mary!! From what I’ve gathered about the bit you shared, it seems your book’s overarching main focal theme is about finding your place in life. (Did I get it right? 😂) So for my personal opinion, I think it’s really great to have more than one message in a story!!! I mean, we as people are so complex and learn so many different…[Read more]

@power Whoa, that poem was AMAZING and really touching!! I loved it! THANK YOU for sharing it with us!! It reminded me of the lyrics from TobyMac’s song Scars. “It doesn’t matter who you are, this world goin’ leave some battle scars.”

Issabelle Perry replied to the topic The Beloved Character Death Discussion Page….Woohoo in the forum Characters 3 years ago
This might not be the best advice by a long shot, but you seem like you’re REALLY in love with the idea of bringing them back. Like I can just feel how much you love this idea and your excitement to write it. And I guess for me, that’s the best reason to follow through with the idea! It’s your story at the end of the day, and if…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic How do you draft/write the "first" document? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 2 months ago
I used to totally pants my first drafts. Now I find it more helpful to make a plot outline and scene outlines before I get writing, but I still give myself the freedom to deviate from that outline if I feel like it. That’s just me though. 🙂
