Barrett would like to sit on ceilings, so he can sneak around in places.
And he would like to live in the hottest place in the world because he could sell more ice-cream.
And here’s is my question for your characters: Would your character rather know the truth and know the horrifying reality that he/she is a…[Read more]

Yes. You heard that right. A mule Stampede. Still to this day, I can’t help but crack up every time I read it. XD
We wrote that novel when my brothers were 10, and 13. So errrr…. yeah. We did finish the chase scene, and we finished the novel, but we never edited it so… the mule stampede still exists hiding somewhere in a google…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic What's a story idea that you want to write but haven't yet? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
Ooooh, I like that idea. I feel like if all the books were connected with an overarching goal and a reason for why they are going through different genres, then it could be really cool. Â With a series like this you could really get to know the characters well, and seeing them in different genres would be really…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Is there a character type (cliched or not) that you love… in the forum Characters 4 years, 1 month ago
I’ve always liked the outcast character. The character that it feels like the world is pitted against them, and they’re always the underdog. I’m not sure why, but oftentimes those characters also have great motivations for their goals and a great sense of humor. So yeah, I like outcast characters.
I also like characters with secret and…[Read more]

What’s a story idea that you want to write but haven’t yet? Because your afraid, don’t want to ruin it, haven’t done enough research with, etc.
Growing up, my siblings and I dreamt up a world with characters, fictional histories, languages, and stories to go with them. Right now, we have a bunch of notes, fictional artifacts, family trees,…[Read more] -

Well, it all began in 2013. During a vacation, my older sister (who was the most into writing back then) suggested that we all write a story together. The name? Fighting Toucan Island. Though, it was about as cliche a story you can get. I was only nine, my older sister was twelve, my younger brothers were seven and five. Honestly, I…[Read more]

Being able to write with my siblings is one of the best gifts that God has given me. There’s rarely a day that goes by without me thanking God for it in my prayers. XD
But that being said, there are a couple of cons… the first that comes to my head is when there’s a disagreement. When you write on your own, you get the final say in…[Read more]

Hating my writing used to be a big obstacle for me as well. So big in fact I wrote an entire article on KP about it.XD
It’s so hard to see the amazing story in your head look so badly when it’s on the page. Then all the work and time you put into your story feels futile.
But as you said, once you get over the crippling…[Read more]

Yeah, sometimes too much advice can stunt creativity. With so many opinions online, sometimes while writing I feel like have to check off all these boxes, instead of just tell a story.
Each time I write I have to remind myself that I just need to tell a story, in an understandable, enjoyable way, that helps someone. Even if…[Read more]

@leon-fleming aka Orpheus Alexander
As you can probably tell, I was trying to avoid this topic. But, sadly, I cannot refuse a dare. I shall include the link below for your personal amusement. For context, my ten-year-old self was particularly fascinated with glassblowing in those days. I still am, actually.…[Read more]

What is your biggest struggle as a writer? (Long rants welcome)
One of my biggest struggles as a writer is outlining. And more specifically, having so many different directions that I could take the story and not knowing which one to choose. I start off outlining, making cool ideas for the story, and everything is going dandy until… Well, I…[Read more] -

XD! This is such a great idea. I have to concur with someone up there somewhere, though, in that my first drafts and inspo and everything was all on paper (notebooks), so that’d be a little odd. Thoughts? XP Love all of this, though, and I wish I had the time to go through and read all of them! 🙂

That is so frustrating. I’ve been doing some research on bugs and online forums, and I will see if there’s anything a the backend of KP website I can do to fix this.
I’ll get back to you when I do. Thanks for letting me know about the issue!

Well, you no longer don’t know anyone who drinks black coffee, because I’ve been drinking black coffee almost daily for years now. XD

A character who is obsessed with a cane? How does one obsess over a cane? Never leave it out of sight, paint portraits of them, take it out on a stroll? I’m suddenly very interested.
And physical quirks totally count. What kind of physical quirks do your characters have?
I remember while writing this forum topic…[Read more]

The Hunger Games Trilogy isn’t like any books I’ve ever read and it definitely stands out from your typical YA fiction. (I’m actually in the middle of reading it again right now) Some of the things I like about it is that the characters are complex, the theme is deep, and the writing style is so easy to read without being overly…[Read more]

It’s funny how the quirks of your characters remind me of some of my siblings.XD
I have a brother who wheres a black ball cap 90% of the time and frequently orders a root beer, a sister who collects coffee mugs and buys books on a daily basis. Though, I don’t have a sibling who wears trench coats.
For some reason, hearing…[Read more]

What are some interesting quirks you have given your characters? If you can’t think of any from your stories, what are some interesting quirks from novels you’ve read?
Okay, so I looked back at a couple characters I’ve written in the past and found a few interesting quirks.
I had one character who had an extreme dislike for beanies and a love…[Read more]

Hi Jaydyn! Welcome to the Kingdom Pen forum!
I’m Kathleen, and I hang out here a lot in the Kingdom of Pen. (It’s quite nice btw).
Your favorite books are some of my favorite as well! Except for the Kingdom Series, although I’ve heard a lot about it, (we even have an interview with the author on KP), I still have yet to read…[Read more]
