I know it says “Topic of the Week” but it’s really more like “topic that i post once a week but, you know, reply whenever you want” but that title is a bit long so I stuck with the former title. XD
But anyway, pulling a prank on Damias for the soul reason that you’ve never had a “near-death experience before” is brilliant.…[Read more]

It wasn’t too long at all! Your answers have made me see even more how wonderful writing can be. It’s pretty amazing all the things writing can do. I think writing stories is even more fun and healing than reading them.
It’s pretty dope right? Being to write all the stories that you wish existed. I mean it’s not easy and…[Read more]

Ooo, I really like that answer. Sometimes it can be really hard to communicate verbally. And when you do, you rarely get past the shallow stuff. But with writing, you can cut out all that nonsense and get straight to the point. I think writing, whether that be in stories, poetry, or song lyrics, is one of the best forms of…[Read more]

Why do you write?
I started writing because my older siblings wrote a lot and I thought it looked fun, but the reason why I write now has evolved quite a lot from that.Yeah, writing is still really fun, but writing has become so much more than that. Stories have helped me understand myself more, the world more, people more, and have helped me…[Read more]

This poem makes me think of a particular person in my life. Our relationship has been really complicated and recently some terrible things have happened causing me to only be able to have shallow conversations with them despite me knowing them my entire life. I have so many things I desperately want to ask them and tell them, but…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic What's the harshest critique you've ever received about your writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 2 months ago
Yeah, heavy themes can be really hard to write well.
But I do really like the ending of your story with the hero scarifying himself at the end. It makes the theme hit so much harder. I barely know anything about your story, but I can see how the theme and character arc might feel half-hearted without him sacrificing himself…[Read more]

Favorite time period? Hmmm… Probably the ancient time period. I definitely would never want to live in that time, but there are so many cool things to learn (and steal for writing purposes) from.
What’s something from history that’s given you a memorable story idea?
Well, I guess I usually come off as pretty quite, introverted,…[Read more]

That’s really interesting! I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that.
I’m not sure if you want any tips on ways to maybe help you be more critical of writing, but here’s some thoughts I had that might help.
Sometimes when I’m reading a book and want to use it as a way to improve my own writing, I keep a notebook with me as I read. On…[Read more]

Percy Jackson was actually the book that got me into reading!
And I’m with you on the History subject. For me I think it really depends on the history book and whether or not they focus more on the people or on dates and basic events. When I started reading history that focused more on the actual people and their lives I started…[Read more]

I’ll definitely will be checking those out!
That’s so interesting! 1st person POV has always been my favorite and still is, haha. What books changed your mind on first person POV?
Yeah, I had the exact same experience with books I had to read that were part of a school curriculum. Still to this day they…[Read more]

What’s the harshest or most honest critique you’ve ever received about your writing?
Now, I have a hard time getting raw honest feedback, because most of the people I hang around with (aka my siblings) are super nice.
But I really wanted honest feedback on my writing. So what I did was have someone on the KP team critique one of my short stories,…[Read more] -

Hi! It’s awesome to have you here!
I love TOP as well! My favorite album from them would probably be Trench. Fun fact, my family used to live in Ohio and my sister went to school with Tyler and Joseph from TOP for a few years.

Hi! It’s wonderful to meet you!
I have to agree with Lin on your question about what makes a good book. If the author doesn’t set up a world or characters or story that doesn’t make you feel anything meaningful, then I don’t really see the point.
As for passions for a full time career… Honestly I have no idea, haha. I’m just always…[Read more]

My favorite characters from ATLA would be Toph, Zuko, and Sokka.
Sokka is so much like one of my brothers it’s freaky. Even he agrees haha.
All those episodes are amazing! Every episode in Ba Sing Se is golden.
The movie is hilariously bad. Those earth benders had to do a full yoga routine to throw a pebble. XD

I was the exact same with classics. I used to think that the only reason why people liked them was because they were labeled “classic” so that somehow justified the dull writing.
But now, a lot of modern books that I’ve recently read felt so shallow, empty, and boring. And the classical books I used to roll my eyes out I now…[Read more]

What’s a Genre or form of writing you used to dislike, but now enjoy?
When I was younger, I really disliked poetry. I just didn’t get it. But I think the reason was because I only read cheap meaningless poetry from books in my school curriculum.Stuff like, Dan eats pickles because they taste better than icicles.
idk something like that.

That’s makes so much sense. Writing can be so therapeutic. I can really relate to being most motivated to write when your going through difficult time. There’s something so cathartic about taking all your jumbled thoughts and emotions and making art out of it. Some of the best stories and also songs I find comes from hard times.
