I don’t even know if I should try to put the whole thing in for one Character, or else everyone is going to have to do a lot of scrolling. I will give you the link to my one OneDrive Word document instead. I don’t usually describe how characters look in these, because I draw pictures of them as you will see I have done in this…[Read more]

I have read Skyward, but only the first two books. Stormlight, I am a little intimidated by. I’ve heard Sanderson himself describing the opening as a wall you have to climb with your fingernails to understand, and when you reach the top, then you will be able to enjoy it. On the other hand, I have read Wheel of Time. Perhaps I…[Read more]

Hello everyone,
I am having an issue with my characters. I have written too much down on their development sheets. I know I use the pen name Linus Smallprint, but this is not because I write little. It is because I write so much that I have to use a small font size to fit everything on one page! This is a problem because I find it hard to…[Read more]

Another suggestion for you. Is there something happening elsewhere that might be distracting the king? Something that seems more important than dealing with rebels? This could work with Ducktator’s idea, where the cultist uses this other issue to his advantage to distract the king.

Alcatraz is my favourite Sanderson work as well. Despite having read through the series several times, I can still pick it up and get hooked on the first chapter. Tress is probably the most similar to Alcatraz of Sanderson’s works in style.
By the way, (@theducktator, and @thearcaneaxiom as well), what books would you recommend to a…[Read more]

A couple of things. Firstly, I did not realize the term ‘Mormon’, is offensive, I am sorry for using it and will be more careful in the future. Secondly, I did not realize that you are a member of The Church of the Latter-Day Saints. Your question from earlier makes so much more sense now.
Now in response to your question as to…[Read more]

Hello, nice to meet you!
1. Favorite thing you have written?
I have only been enjoying writing for the past 4 years (until part way through grade 11, I actually hated it and thought I could never write). I also tend to be very focused on whatever my WIP is, so I do not have much to choose from. My other problem is I am a…[Read more]

So here’s a question posed for everyone, and I’m curious to see what creative ideas or suggestions you may have. I’ll answer my own question in another post, too, but here it is: What are some ways to set up healthy boundaries with technology to keep it from overruling our lives, and how can we use it to our benefit? What can we do to…

(Sorry if this felt judgey, I can totally understand why AI can be helpful and fun)
No worries! I know I was pushing for positives to AI earlier on, but this was because I wanted to get a discussion going, not because I wanted to justify using AI. I am actually struggling to think of the positives in using ChatBots for authors myself.…[Read more]

Please let me know when you read Yumi and the Nightmare Painter!
Sorry, right now I have no plans to read Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. After seeing some of the artwork in the book, it seems there may be some scenes I would not be comfortable reading. I also found out that the plot involves Yumi and Panter switching bodies, which…[Read more]

Thank you for the suggestion. I use the ESV app mainly and occasionally go to the LSB. The problem is that sometimes I can’t remember a word, or I have it memorized in a different version. The ESV app at least requires you to be very precise in your search, no typos allowed. Perhaps I should try something that searches multiple…[Read more]

How about this one for a favourite quote?
“And then, Tress took the singular step that separated her from people in most stories. The act, it might be said, that defined her as a hero. She did something so incredible, I can barely express its majesty.
‘I should consider this more,’ Tress thought to herself, ‘and not jump to c… -

Oh my goodness I use AI lots, but only to generate text in the style of Shakespeare on the subject on “how to make a peanut butter sandwich” – @stephie
Nice! Now that is a fun use for AI. I got to try a Shakespearian peanut butter sandwich.
@trailblazer, going to God’s word is no doubt the best way to get the answer, and the internet is def…[Read more]

Author: Brandon Sanderson
Year: 2023
Genres: Fantasy, Adventure, Romance
Intro:
Some might think Tress lives a rather dull life. Her home is on a rock in the middle of a deadly emerald sea. She has never left this island, but she does not plan to either. She is perfectly content to wash windows and collect tea cups sailors bring her. She…[Read more]

I’ve mentioned before that I am not great at naming, but if you are looking for a unique fantasy name, here is something I sometimes do. Think of a word that describes your character. You mentioned that she is dramatic, so you could use that as your starting point. Next, choose a couple of languages. I generally go for Latin, and…[Read more]

I have used AI a bit myself, for some of the things I have mentioned at the beginning. However, the more I do it, the less comfortable I feel about it. I’ve noticed that the stories can get very samey over time. I do still get curious, wondering if I put a chapter of my story in it, if it will be able to predict. For feedback, ChatGPT 3.5 cannot…[Read more]

Hello everyone,
We now live in the 21st century where AI is becoming a very normal thing. For us authors, we can use it to write and illustrate stories, give feedback on them, and help us to brainstorm ideas. I am curious to know what you all think about it. Is this something we should use, and to what extent? Does anyone have any stories to…[Read more]

Oh no. You are asking the Author who came up with a whole fantasy race that is known for being terrible at naming. He then put them in charge so that he would not have to put much thought into the names of many characters and locations. They are a lion-like species known as lyens that take a word related to ‘lion’ and change the…[Read more]
