I don’t like Roger Williams (founder of Rhode Island and my distant ancestor) because he was too soft on theology. He also got kicked out by the Puritans and that’s never a good sign. And for all his pomp about religious freedom in Rhode Island, the church density there is lower than in North Carolina, where I live. So yea…

Yeah, I seriously thought you’d get 1st place. And you did!
Wow. I’m super honored you thought I might potentially win. I guess it’s that self-comparing thing, perhaps not a quality character trait to have. It’s something to work on internally.

Thank you!!! I love all of your feedback to us writers!
Congratulations!!! *confetti spraying everywhere* I was thinking you might win after I read your story! Perhaps you can give the prompt now, but give it a longer deadline since some people couldn’t finish their story on time (like me!)

So, there’s a story behind why there’s a bobcat on the crest. There’s a legend about the Sutherland clan that way back in the day, they didn’t have their own land.
They went to some other lord in that area because they saw a beautiful, bountiful piece of land which they wanted for their clan. To their surprise, the…[Read more]

That was amazing!!!! Hm…I actually know of another Dunn person. Didn’t know it was Irish.
Oh, no. Thank you for writing such a long post about your ancestors. The info about Glendenning clan was so cool! Their motto is AMAZING!
So, the Irish is pretty far back there, but we’re closest related to Parkers and Crumlins. I don’t…[Read more]

I’m really mostly Welsh, and my great-grandfather was a coal-miner “down the pits.” My grandfather’s second cousin is a druid, and my grandfather is a retired Reformed Presbyterian minister.
That’s pretty cool. Especially the coal-miner!
Also one of my random ancestors founded Rhode Island. Not too proud of that one.

I’m a farm girl, I’ve seen some gross things.
Oh, yeah! Isn’t farming amazing? I’ve been a farm girl, too, (though not currently) and yes, you definitely see some gross stuff…especially on a conventional dairy farm.
Awesome! I’ve got Scots-Irish, too! Well, it’s mostly Scots. My family’s from the Sut…[Read more]

Oh, good. For a moment, I was worried you were saying there were already enough books for YA and MG.

Really though, if you want to write for kid’s or YA, know that there’s not a lot of places so in need of what you have to say.
I’m sorry, could you rewrite this sentence? I don’t think I understand it.
Hmm…yes, I agree with you about the Dawn. Totally.

And yes, Yigal was military. There’s a lot of flower/name symbolism in the story… did you catch it?
Yes, I did catch it…but I didn’t know that it was related to the military. Guess I learned something new.

Look out. I’m a mildly passionate children’s writer, and I’m always ready to recruit a few more. 😉
What do you mean??

Oh my gosh. I’m sure Tim never did that. At least, I hope he wouldn’t. His poor grandfather. So, what that how he got his scar? Or was it really in the war?

Woah. I just read your story. I can see many people saying it’s gross…but it’s kind of intriguing. (I have a fascination for popping abscesses and pussy things like that.) Most people wouldn’t anthropomorphize pus.
Your writing style reminds me of my brother’s. Must be a boy thing!
If you aren’t able to request access to my…[Read more]

The concept (a boy is only allowed to see the sun, and a girl is always in darkness) is so much like yours!
I think requesting access is the only way.

Yeah…that’s what I’ve been wrestling with. I first thought it would be MG, but as I worked more on the plot, I started thinking, “This sounds more like YA.” But I didn’t like the idea of writing it for YA. I’ll see more when I start writing it and see the tone of the story more, but for now, I’m “writing” it for both age groups.
