Hiya! And thx, but no thx on the green tea *holds up hot cocoa*. Personally I prefer peppermint (with lots of sugar and cream!)
As for how long….oof.
Since I was little I know. But I may not have ever actually called it fantasy. Idk 😂 I know I used to draw stories in my notebooks when I was little and then started actually wanting…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic What is your biggest struggle as a writer? (Long rants welcome) in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 4 months ago
Well, it all began in 2013. During a vacation, my older sister (who was the most into writing back then) suggested that we all write a story together. The name? Fighting Toucan Island. Though, it was about as cliche a story you can get. I was only nine, my older sister was twelve, my younger brothers were seven and five. Honestly, I…[Read more]

Hating my writing used to be a big obstacle for me as well. So big in fact I wrote an entire article on KP about it.XD
It’s so hard to see the amazing story in your head look so badly when it’s on the page. Then all the work and time you put into your story feels futile.
But as you said, once you get over the crippling…[Read more]

@lewilliams Oof. I kind of feel like that with the first MC of my other WIP. This is a rewrite of a story I started in… 2009? (Granted, it’s gone through a lot of changes and I maybe haven’t developed the characters quite as well as I should…) But the first MC’s voice is just awful. >.< It’s soooo flat. POVs two and three are fine. But #1……[Read more]

@lewilliams Absolutely! 🙂 I don’t have any tips for finding your tri-type beyond research. 😛 There might be tests you can take that specifically include your tri-type? But I’m not sure.
I think my stronger wing is 8, though my mom might disagree and say it’s 1, lol. (My mom sees my 1 tendencies way more than I do, for some reason.) When I first…[Read more]

Well, you no longer don’t know anyone who drinks black coffee, because I’ve been drinking black coffee almost daily for years now. XD
Who would have thought that you and @gracie-j would both have characters who make puns instead of cursing. XD Who knows, maybe they are the reincarnation of each other, just born into…[Read more]

@gracie-j Now that I’ve announced the thing for Saturday, I can tell you what it is. ;D I’m recording a panel interview with four Christian authors, which will go up next Tuesday! 😀 😀 It’ll be Miranda Marie, Mattie May, Angela Watts, and Brian McBride. ^-^
Sooo, the reason tests aren’t as reliable is because they measure behavior. The enneagram…[Read more]

Hey, so I wanted to kickstart the conversation here again, so….where did the first spark of inspiration for your story come from?
Just tagging a few people who’ve already commented, but anyone is more than welcome to join in!

Kathleen replied to the topic What was the very last scene you wrote? How did it go? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 5 months ago
I don’t think you can go wrong with Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean. There’s just isn’t enough books out there in that style! Well, maybe there are actually a ton of books like that, that I just haven’t heard of.XD (If there are please let me know.)
Both scenes sound very intriguing! Are both scenes from…[Read more]

@lewilliams I love your blurb, especially the structure of it. Very nice. I also feel sorry for all of them, especially Arvi, poor boy!
And oh my goodness, A Beginner’s Guide to Villainy sounds exactly like my cup of tea. Also 100% realistic. I know a lot of tertiary students who would become villains just to get their scores up a little. And b…[Read more]

Thanks! Tell Me No Lies sounds very interesting! 😀 I love murder mysteries and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at one, but I don’t think I have a good enough understanding yet. 🙁 I think the genre is one of if not the hardest to write.

@devastate-lasting Well I would say I don’t mind a little violence and whatnot as long as the overarching theme of the movie promotes a good message…Less would probably be better tho 🙃 If you couldn’t tell by my reading preferences, I do generally prefer childrens (why I love Studio Ghibli, haha). And I do try to be careful about what I watch…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Are you and outliner or a pantser? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 5 months ago
Totally agree. When you try to force characters into some plot point that you’ve outlined, it ends up feeling very forced and contrived. And now that I’ve spotted contrived plot devices in my own stories, it’s like a flashing red light when I read or watch other stories. Forcing things makes the story feel cheap, lazy, and unrealistic.…[Read more]
