Elizabeth replied to the topic How do you develop your story ideas? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 7 months ago
@joy-caroline Hehe, thanks 😉 He’s a filmmaker, so in addition to getting to talk about my stories, I get to hear all his neat idea for films too 😀 (It’s win-win, you see.)
Oooh, that’s all so cool!! Also hey, I know we haven’t really talked a bunch, but I’ve really enjoyed seeing you post about your Biblical fiction stories–it’s very…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic What do you do when you feel discouraged and feel like giving up? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm I don’t have much to add at the moment (though I’m sure I’ll be back 😉 ), but I just wanted to say that reading your post was super encouraging and helpful–I’m going to definitely try your approach next time I’m feeling discouraged. 😀

Also, @ everyone:
How do y’all go about coming up with ideas for new stories? Like, I feel like I have a fairly alright grasp on the “development” thing, but actually coming up with the ideas? That’s a different matter altogether.

@joy-caroline Oh this is such an interesting topic!! I’ve loved getting to read about everyone’s processes. 😀
For me, I usually have to talk my ideas out. Sometimes that takes the form of rambling on and on in a parenthetical aside in the midst of my Google Doc/Scrivener document, other times it takes the form of me trying to explain something…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic If you got to be a screen writer for a movie, what type of movie would it be? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 8 months ago
@kathleenramm Thank you! Maybe someday I’ll revisit that project–’twas a lot of fun to write the first time around.
All of those are excellent choices!! Now I want to rewatch HTTYD…I deeply regret not seeing any of the trilogy in theatres, but I was uncultured at the time, I suppose. I’ve wanted to start watching Studio Ghibli! My husband and…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic What was your favorite and least favorite thing about the last book you read in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 8 months ago
@kathleenramm What an interesting topic!! Though now I’m going to have to wrack my memory for the last book I read for fun… #Englishmajorlife
Okay, I think the last book I completed (or audiobook anyway) was Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, which is a (sadly no longer canon) Star Wars. There were lots of things I really enjoyed about i…[Read more]

@scripter-of-kingdoms Ooh this is such a fun idea! I unfortunately doubt that I’m going to be able to participate fully, though I may in a smaller way–maybe 100 words a day or something. Thanks for tagging me!!

@kathleenramm I’ve been thinking about this question ever since you posted it, partially because it’s such a good question, and partially because the one full-length screenplay I’ve written was about a Godfather-style fairy mafia. Title? The Godmother. You’re welcome. 😛
Nowadays, I think I would love to write a comedy, preferably one with some…[Read more]

@tabitha-cassandra Hello and welcome to the Kingdom of Pen! Would you care for a cup of tea? I offer one to all new arrivals. 😀 I’m Elizabeth by the way, and it’s so very nice to meet you.
Your WIP sounds so cool!! What drew you to sci-fi? I’m more of a fantasy writer myself, but do love a good science fiction story.
*high five for a fellow…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 @gracie-jÂ
Lol I’m either in the middle of like, draft 6000 or the longest draft 1 ever so take what follows as you mayHonestly, what has helped me the most to get into my character’s heads is to work on a scene I’m dying to write, whether or not it actually fits into my draft. (This is one reason why I have several dozen…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic What's Been A Foundational Book For You? in the forum Book Discussions 3 years, 8 months ago
@buildsbygideon For me, the book that’s been most foundational in my (recent) life has been Finding God’s Life for My Will by Mike Donehey. My husband and I read it out loud together this year (twice, actually) and it was such a wonderful read. It’s a bit hard to summarize, but I saw it described on Goodreads as part Christian living, part band…[Read more]

@buildsbygideon Hello! I don’t believe we’ve met–I’m Elizabeth. *extends hand solemnly*
What an interesting topic! I’ve really enjoyed reading over everyone’s responses. As for me, it depends. The way my brain processes sound is a little odd, so sometimes music helps me focus, but sometimes it’s really really distracting. When I do listen to…[Read more]

(So it looks like the forum ate my reply for some reason??? Apologies if y’all’ve seen this like, three times.)
aNYWAY,
@wyn-rose What a cool topic!! I don’t have a ton of titles to share (I guess that’s what comes from only having two major WIPs over the course of several years) but I’d love to talk about my thought process behind each one. …[Read more]
