Communication Sciences and Disorders. It’s a lot of fun, if a lot of work.
*Currently fighting a headache that was probably due to stress over an exam this morning*

I am barely keeping up with my college classes and work as it is, so I’m afraid I won’t be joining. Y’all have fun and do great writerly things!

Ari
He forced himself to refocus on Moth. He doesn’t want to hurt the target. That might be part of the problem.
“I wouldn’t like to meet a living hay bale. What if you imagine the arrow is a message to the center of the target, and you need to sent it there.”

Ellis….XD
Ari
“Yes.” Ari’s eyes brightened at Ellis’s suggestion. He nodded slowly. “More violent than flowers, certainly. I wonder…violence…would likely not be as pleasant for the arrows. Or whatever they hit.”

I’ve been a bit swamped as well, so your timing is great. XD
Ari
That was… unexpected. He lowered his bow.
“Did you intend for that to happen?”
The thing–flower?–was pretty. Ari walked over to it, heedless of other arrows as he was most safety precautions. He crouched beside the thing but didn’t pick it up. Even in his somewhat limited expirence, magic could be… temperamental.
“Could be useful, if all your enemies arrows turned to flower.”

But she goes by a different name.

Hey, shooting stuff is fun.
Just going to pull from my own very limited experience with archery. If someone else has expertise you might need to help. XD
Ari
He hadn’t meant for either of the boys to actually start shooting yet, but Ellis had certainly some idea of what to do, though he used a draw Ari had never tried. Slow, yes, and his shoulder was going to hurt once he picked up anything heavier. But then, speed and drawing took consistent practice, which Ellis had admitted to a lack of.
Might as well start the lesson now.
“Use your back muscles when drawing, not just your arm or you’ll tear something.” He bent and strung his bow as he spoke. “Carful when stringing and unstringing. It’s easy to break your bow–or your skin. I’ve seen some rather interesting things happen when bow parts start flying.”
He dropped an arrow onto his own string forcing himself to move slowly. His ring hooked caught the string in a smooth draw. Thumb touched ear, string brushed lip. He let go. The target arrow whipped through the straw target and buried itself in the hay bale wall behind. The hole left behind was just outside the center circle.
One dead goblin.
He handed Moth a leather ring. “Put that on your right hand. Thumb if you want to try what I just did, first finger if you’d rather pinch the arrow nock.”

Ari
He nodded and picked up the rod.
“Arm.” Ari quickly measured Ellis’s draw length and went back to the rack of bows. A slightly longer recurve would do.
“Here. This one’s about fifteen pounds too. I don’t want you two shooting me with a bow you can’t control. If you’re going to shoot someone it had better be on purpose.” He turned to take down his own bow, a recurve with long black limbs. Silver letters in the old script swirled down it’s length. A gift from his mother’s dead father.
Oh stop it. Focus.
“Arrows. And arm guards. Come this way.”
A drawer beside the arsenal yielded up and leather arm guard for each of his students. A case on the other side gave them three quivers of target arrows.
“Ready?”

And I just asked Ellis a question. XD
He can answer or not or just shrug.

I Am Alive!!!!!
*Ahem*
I love the cat. Such attitude, such floof.
Ari
Rythmic thuds of broadheads into targets pulsed as a heartbeat. Only a handful of students were practicing, their vows a range from graceful limbed recurves to longbows as tall as their archers. High windows some fifteen feet up the outer wall let in fresh air and sunlight. Ari lead Moth and the other boy to a carefully organized arsenal. He picked up a long wooden rod.
“I’m assuming you’ve never had your draw length measured. Put you… actually, which eye…” He paused, studying the golden boy. Did fairy’s have dominant eyes? “Never mind. Hold you left arm straight out.”
He held the stick to Moth’s arm, sliding it till he had one end centered under Moth’s chin, then checked marked how far the fairy’s palm came to the other end.
“Hmm.” For a moment he considered just how small Moth was. Then he shrugged and set the stick down by the rack of bows. Numbers ran across the top of the arsenal and down the side. He scanned them before picking up a light recurve.
“This one should be a good length. Let’s start off with fifteen pounds until you are consistently hitting a target.” Because handing a hundred war bow to a beginner was dangerous and cruel. Hard to control a thing you could barely draw. He turned his attention to Ellis.
“You know your draw length?”

Tagging some old people
Oh my gracious. XD
What Elishavet said and also:
From the perspective of someone who’s both attended college, is attending college, and has worked in college admissions offices…Remember, colleges want students. Colleges need students. They will be looking for reasons to make you pick them, not reasons to turn you away. They want you.
With that in mind, having your paperwork together, dressing business like (literally like you mean business), and having a prepared list of questions for them (tuition? Financial aid? College life? Degree plans?) will make them want you as a prospective student and not just a prospective tuition.
In short, if you look like someone who wants a degree, cares about your grades, and is relatively prepared to figure both of those out, you’ll do perfectly fine (even if you’re not sure what degree plan you’re going for yet).
Just having an interview is a big accomplishment. Good job! You can do this.

I pronounced that Moth-er and that is somehow quite fitting.
Ari
The tension in his shoulders eased slightly. He nodded and pushed away from the table.
“Come on then.”
Students still meandered around the courtyard. Clumps of them stood followed various instructors like swarms of bees. Ari headed straight for the enclosed archery range, ignoring the hussle that parted around him.
But Moth was small. Ari glanced behind him once to check on the faery boy and his friend and once more as he reached the door. The school wisely did their best to contain stray arrows and so had put a whole wall and roof between the range and the rest of the gymnasium. Stifling, that.

I tried typing Moth and it autocorrected to Mother and I almost started laughing very loudly to myself in public
*Snort laughs in a very public but very empty hallway*
Ari
He slowly nodded. Linguistics wasn’t for another three hours–not till after lunch, and of course Choir this evening. The school had tried to saddle him with other classes; diplomacy, dancing, philosophy, ethics. Tried unsuccessfully.
Stop staring off into space like a brainless statue.
“Yes.” He flinched at his own voice. “I was–am.”
It was odd talking to other students, but Moth and Ellis, they were both new. They’d leave him alone eventually.
He reached up to squeeze the back of his neck.
