@Leon-Fleming hehe who is overly fond of math? XD
I see what you are saying. I am afraid I have never read any of Tolkien’s works but I think I get the idea.
Its an interesting concept. I have a bit of a prejudice against prose (ok, ok a big prejudice, blame the snob in me) but it would be interesting to see both mixed together. Perhaps sometime…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming wow that sounds really involved. It seems like you got all the math worked out for it. I have never heard of somebody writing a novel in poetry. I am curious, is this in rhyming poetry or prose?

@leon-fleming I absolutely love time travel! There are so may different ways to incorporate it…
Before I can give any ideas, first I must ask: How does he time travel? By cherry soda bottle? By machine? Ability? Magic? Inexplicable events? How often can he time travel? Forward or back? Etc?
And if cherry soda bottles aren’t part of how he…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming you are right. NaNoWriMo in November is supposed to help you write like 50k words in a month or something by writing 2k a day. I am talking about camp NaNoWriMo in April and July which are supposed to help you get on track and practice writing that much for November. July isn’t as strict as November.

Thanks, @devastate-lasting good luck with your writing schedule!

@hannah-c I did it last year. Now whenever I read the manuscript I have no memory whatsoever of writing it. It’s pretty fun, but I’ve just developed a writing schedule for this year (1/3 months) so I think I’ll pass this year. Good luck if you do attempt it, though!

I’ve missed our chats lately! I’ve just been so busy I haven’t had time for much writing, though I’m currently plotting a new novel and hope to make time to write during July Camp NaNo. How have you been doing? Is life normalish at the moment?

Hey, y’all!
Is anyone here doing camp NaNoWriMo this year? Or has anyone ever done it before? I haven’t decided whether to attempt it or not this year, I am still trying to get back into my writing stride. I thought if peeps were going to do it then we could put together a writing group like they have on the NaNoWriMo website. Just like keep each…[Read more]

@allisongrace Haha yeah I still get pulled in by the internet all the time XD
Oh, rest in peace, plants. Do you name plants after characters/people or do you look at one and think, “That one looks like an Ike”?

Lin replied to the topic TOPIC OF THE WEEK – Who's the most realistic character in a story? in the forum Start HERE 5 years, 10 months ago
@kathleenramm I’m gonna have to say Cal Trask from East of Eden. He seemed very, very human to me. I think it was because he was foils with his brother, Aron, and since Aron was the perfect person that we all attain to be, Cal is our sinful self, who could never measure up to Aron.

@kathleenramm Haha now that you say it it does sound kinda sadistic…but I don’t do it often 😉
Yes, the high emotion really helps to develop characters and help spice up the story if it feels too flat!

To read: Plot twist!!! Though I also love a good dialogue or description. And suspense in a story will definitely keep me reading, especially if I’m trying to figure things out along with the main character rather than knowing what’s going on and simply pleading with the main character to FIGURE IT OUT ALREADY. XD
To write: I enjoy…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I don’t know about reading, but I love writing wounded people scenes. There’s blood everywhere, almost everyone’s panicking, and I get to display just how little I actually know about medical stuff.

@allisongrace Hello! You kind of look familiar, but I’m not sure.
Oh wow someone else who likes handwriting! I have drafted everything that I’ve written so far by hand. I think it’s way easier to have a visual goal in front of you as well as calculating word counts and managing goals. And also you don’t get distracted as easily.
Do you name your plants?

@kathleenramm Not off the top of my head but I think there’s some Webtoons out there that I might’ve read sometime…I also like incorporating it into my own writing too XD

@kathleenramm Uh…I had to look up a list because I don’t remember anything that I actually like…but I do like the “grumpy one that has a soft spot for only that one other character” trope. I think it’s cute. And also it shows that people are complex and are more than just their demeanor.

The Flash TV series. Actually, all of the CW TV series (Arrow, Supergirl, Gotham). I’ve watched all of them, and didn’t really enjoy any of them ( stopped watching Supergirl and Gotham because the content was awful). But I watched the Flash in particular almost obsessively because for some reason, even though logically I knew the plots were awful…[Read more]
