Kate Flournoy replied to the topic So what's next for the forums? in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 6 months ago
@northerner I haven’t been on either community as much as I would have liked. :'( When the hiatus was first announced it really hit me in the gut, since KP has been my rock for the past five years and one of the best things that ever happened to me.
At first, I was a little skeptical about the idea of a new site. Sure, Story Embers would be…[Read more]

@Leumeister Don’t worry, I won’t forget to comment. 😉 Weelll… @Catwing, you have a blog, right? Would it be too much trouble for us to do some sort of email address exchange through your contact page? Like, we both contact you through your blog, and then you’ll have our addresses and can send a three-way email connecting us, so we’ll both have…[Read more]

@Leumeister Me! As long as there’s no urgent time crunch, because life is rather full right now, I’d love to. Cool worldbuilding, too. It mostly went over my head, but still. XD

@ariel-ashira a little. I’m part of one of the guilds, but not as active as I should be.

@ariel-ashira XD Preparing for a book launch. 😛

@leumeister it’s quite science-y but also plausible. 😀 I like the gravity manipulation thing. I have something slightly similar, only it’s a negative energy pulsar that basically creates a mini wormhole around the ship and enables almost instantaneous transportation.
Lots of cool ideas. 😀

@leumeister I would love to, but unfortunately I’ve got a huge project on my hands right now (launching my first published book this year 😀 ) and I promised myself I wouldn’t take on anything extra.

@That_Writer_Girl_99 Hey Elizabeth, guess what I did? (Here’s hoping you still get/read KP notifications… 😛 ) I read Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. Aren’t you proud of me? Well, I liked it a lot. Really well written, and Percy’s POV… O.o I adore deadpan humor.

@waterlily yeah. What he said.

@waterlily The standard way to get around age limits is to use the joint venture approach. Basically, someone older than you (a parent, probably) agrees to be part of what you’re doing. They can create an account on MailChimp and let you use it. If they ever stopped letting you use it, legally that would be fine unless you had signed some sort of…[Read more]

@Jenwriter17 I know that @Hope uses CreateSpace. 😉
Other than that: self publishing involves a lot of marketing. You have to get your book out into the world without any help from the publishers. You also have to edit it as much as humanly possible, and it’s best to get a professional editor to look over it, otherwise you’ll be publishing and…[Read more]

@ariel-ashira Well, this isn’t really something I think about a whole lot because I tend to have a good grip on my characters so I just always do what feels right for them and it pretty much turns out. I guess though personally, if I had a brother I thought was dead show up alive I would probably rush him and hug him.

@Jenwriter17 pretty much just throwing in all the subplots and more try-fail sequences will fill out your plot a lot more.

@jenwriter17 Yeah, what Kate said is huge. If you have part 2 of my Show Don’t Tell Course, I have a whole lesson on live scenes there, but basically a live scene is the literary version of a camera taking in everything that’s happening in a scene. No time is skipped. An overview is like when someone tells you what happened at their birthday…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 heh… I’ve got the opposite problem. 😛
*scratches head* I would say probably the number one thing that makes my novels so ridiculously long is the crazy amount of time I spend really delving into the layers of chemistry in live scenes. I try to do all live scenes if I possibly can (no summaries, no overviews, no generalizations)…[Read more]

Could you pray for a friend of the family? The dad just died in a car accident, leaving behind a wife and ten or eleven kids. 😢

Nope, not on here anymore, but I get the email notifications, should anyone actually tag me.
Good for you, love. I’m glad you liked it.
Right, I figured you might still get notifications. Yahhhhh *victory high-five*
Yo, how’s life for ya? Any way I can pray for you?
