USA fact: Washington is the only state named after a president.

I’m in Eastern Washington state. Contrary to popular belief, it DOES NOT RAIN ALL THE TIME here. Go to the west side of the state; yep, it absolutely does. Here in eastern WA, we’re in a high desert area. We have four lovely, very distinct seasons. We have temps ranging from (fahrenheit) 105 to -10. It’s the perfect place to live (in my very…[Read more]

@writefury I feel silly but I didn’t know there was a difference. 🙂 I think I’m doing 3rd person limited…I’m writing in Deep Point Of View if you are familiar with that.
(Totally off subject….I wanted to let you know that I will be at the Christian Heritage conference and I’d love to meet you! If you want to send me an email through my…[Read more] -

In a 3rd person story, how should the narrator address the MC’s parents? As Mr. and Mrs? As they would be to the MC…Mom and Dad? Or her mom and her dad?
If I’m not making sense (many apologies), I can provide some snippets.

Ivy Rose replied to the topic How fast do you read? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@Daeus, when I first saw the title of this topic, the first thing that came into my mind was, “Not fast enough.” 🙂
In reality, I read pretty fast. My mom taught me to read at 3 and at age 5 I was reading Little House on the Prairie by myself. Though I’m not proud of this, I have a terribly short attention span and can’t sit still for long. I…[Read more]

@jadamae I started playing in the fall of 2005. I was seven years old. 🙂 My brother (then 5) and I started at the same time! After seven years of classical violin, we switched to bluegrass/country/old-time fiddle. We both find fiddling SO much more fun than classical. 🙂

Welcome, Faith! Happy to have you here!
I’m a violin player as well! Good for you picking up violin…it is not an easy instrument. Keep at it though! The ability to play an instrument is such a gift. I’ve been playing violin/fiddle for almost 11 years now (piano for 14), and though I wasn’t always excited or cooperative when it came to lessons,…[Read more]

Ivy Rose replied to the topic The "diversity" trend in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
That was an interesting article. My two cents on the skin color/ethnicity part of it:
In my family, we are about as diverse as you can get when it comes to skin color. I have two biological brothers, both extremely caucasian with blonde hair and blue eyes. As for myself, I have olive skin and brown hair and eyes. My sister is Chinese. My 3…[Read more]

@Sarah-h Yeah, Daeus explained it very well there. I like to think about plugins as apps. You can get ‘apps’ for WordPress just like you get apps for a cell phone. The WordPress “apps” make your website do something that it isn’t already programmed for …just like a cell phone app.

@hope yes you can buy a domain name before setting up your web hosting site. Or buy a domain separately from the site that will be hosting your website. Generally, the hosting sites have ‘package deals’ when you buy a domain and so many years of service.
WordPress is amazingly versatile, and yes, there is a lot of information available on the web…[Read more]

@hope I use Hostgator. They were a little more expensive than some others (by a dollar or two a year) but I paid for 3 years upfront, as well as paying for my domain name, and it was around $60.
A fair word of warning…setting up a WordPress.org site is a ton of work. The only reason I did it is that my folks wanted me to take a class and learn…[Read more]

@Hope, are you asking about WordPress.com or WordPress.org? There is a difference…and it can be big or little depending.

Has anyone used a word processing software other than Word or Pages? I’m thinking about getting Storyist, which I hear is similar to Scrivener. However, $60 is a lot of money (yes I’m kicking myself for not buying it with my NaNo discount before that expired) and I want to make sure that it would actually be helpful.
The main reason I have for…[Read more]

I read the Hidden Hand so long ago that I don’t remember too many characters, but as long as I’m thinking of the correct book, I liked Travis. (he was the doctor, right?) In Ishmael, Bee and Nora were my favorites. Who were yours?
Yes, EDEN Southworth’s tenancies towards melodrama gets tiring after a few books, but when spaced sporadically among…[Read more]

Welcome Anna! So happy to have you here! The first drafts of first novels are pretty much destined to be terrible (Mine sure was!!!) but that’s what editing is for! 🙂
@Kate-flournoy…Congratulations— you have joined the ranks of the most impressive army of nut-cases on the internet…you make me laugh. I guess it’s true though, huh? 😉

@Sarah-h Lamplighter Publishing carries the “real” version of The Hidden Hand. They compiled both books into one (and kept it unabridged). Well worth the money and time!
