@elfwing Mm yes ducks would make such cute spies. My guards would definitely let down their guard for them. If I had guards.
And yes, eat the chickens. Better than eating the horse, heheh.
And geese are absolutely terrifying they would definitely make very good watchdogs. Or turkeys. Forget peacocks turkeys would do more than just be decoration.

It is my FAVORITE love trope in my writingggg!!! the journey of learning to better understand each other is so fun and developing their characters can be a total hoot and also give some tears. I would say it’s my top favorite, but I have not used it…[Read more]

@elfwing How about…chickens? There seems to be an underwhelming amount of chickens in fantasy except in cooking.
And ducks. And geese.

@kathleenramm Secret identities —- your works sound lowkey like Durarara!, which has quite a bit of that around the climax.
Hmm…for me I find myself pulling more light novel tropes, usually, such as getting hit by a truck, white curtains blowing in a classroom, fireworks festivals, etc…. I watch too much anime…
Um…I use “the quest” a…[Read more]

@joy-caroline That sounds awesome! I’m all for parallels! Sounds like it would be hard to pull off but if you could do it, that’d be really good!

wow I would say YES but I really like adding a traumatized person to my stories and then tying in their story with the plot!
I would say as long as you make sure to keep it tied into the plot, do it. Like maybe they just miss each other or something…
anyways yes!

So I was just thinking about critters in fantasy. You know, dragons, eagles, orcs, etc. I get bored of them sometimes. (not Smaug; Smaug’s sense of humor and sarcasm will never grow old XD)
I know it’s fun to make up animals but at the same time, I like my earth critters.
I thought it would be fun to brainstorm real animals that don’t usually…[Read more]

mine is so secret identity!!! I have at least two people in each book of my series; sometimes the same and sometimes new ones. Not intentionally
i love the chances for discovery and adding layers
“well… we’re like onions.”
“So… they smell?”
“Yes— no! We have layers! Onions have layers!
“Well cake has layers!

Ahh ok. that sounds fun! what movies/books have you done fan fics on?
You know… the ready-made part is probably what makes it hard for me; I love making new things, and trying to replicate artistic works (except accents and voices) really doesn’t work for me, be it characters or drawings and paintings.

Elfwing replied to the topic Character Arc chat in the forum Characters 4 years, 9 months ago
sounds cool! Good for you! I have never succeeded at fan fics, but everyone is different and I appreciate writers who can take a character and make their own fan fic and it turn out really cool. From what you’ve described here and other topics, I’d say you must have lots of fun doing them! Keep it up! 🙂
I must admit… I love doing…[Read more]

@keilah-h Of course! One of my favorite books, East of Eden, is a retelling of Cain and Abel, and I love it to pieces. Your methods sound so cool! What stories do you usually choose?
-
Lin replied to the topic Character Arc chat in the forum Characters 4 years, 9 months ago
@kathleenramm Ah, farmer/shepherd meaning Cain and Abel, haha… I didn’t realise I was writing a retelling of the first murder until I was almost done. So…
Yes, reflective character arcs are so good with foils and things… Those always strengthen themes the best, I think.

thank you!
i do like those kinds of characters as well. After all, no one is perfect.
In this case it’s the villain’s fiancé/soon-to-be wife who defends him and yet criticize him. She loves him fiercely and the two are rather a funny pair, but it works XD. She’s got a quick temper and trust issues but once you have her trust,…[Read more]
