    On to bed!

    Ari

    Twenty-five. Twenty-six.

Over six feet stretched between him and the roofline. He wouldn’t make it to the in time.

But he didn’t really have to. He’d made it above the lanterns, putting their glare between himself and any eyes on the path below.

“Get over the top.” He hissed into the night, but didn’t look to see…[Read more]

  • Yesssssssss…..I agreeth.

  • @whalekeepet

Ahhhhh…I had a role play typed up and accidentally exed out….

    Anyway.

    Ari

The way back to the dormatory had been a twisting maze of shadows and shrubberies; just such a place to slink through in the darkness.

The last twenty feet to the wall? Not so much. Ari crouched behind an overgrown azalea bush, careful to shield his…[Read more]

No no. I think the Remington is perfect. There is no other anyone like Remington. He is the Remington.

  • @whalekeeper

    Ari

Did Moth just swear? If he had, Ari didn’t recognize the language. He levered himself up on his elbows to look at the other boy. His eyes appeared strangely bright in the shadows.

“Of course. I can climb just about anything.” It was a bland statement of fact. However, concern leaked into his next words. “Are you alright? We hit…[Read more]

    Ari

His grin was back with a dose of malicious amusement. He waited until the hurried steps and shocked conversation took themselves away before slowly lifting his head. A prickly legged insect crawled over his hand. He ignored it.

“I think they’re gone. We should probably scuttle off before anyone comes back.” But he didn’t move…[Read more]

  • @whalekeeper

Just remembered the mention of servants out looking for curfew breakers…

    Ari

He nodded seriously, the unfamiliar grin slipping out.

“I do my best. We will need–”

The faint sound of shoes clicking on pavement. Ari froze a moment before his mind identified the sound.

“Down,” he hissed, throwing his dark mantle over the fairies…[Read more]

  • @whalekeeper

That is an incredibly good description of him actually. I can imagine him having a pet hedgehog in his back pocket that he’d be incredibly protective over. Or maybe a kitten.

    Ari

A small grin was trying desperately to push past the tight aloofness that usually marked his face. Ari slowly shook his head though he wasn’t sure what…[Read more]

    OoO

    XD

I’m honestly kind of shocked that y’all like him this much. Like, I like him, but I made him. He’s a little bit of a snot, bless his heart.

  • @whalekeeper

If anyone picks on Moth at this point, Ari is going to pulverize them.

    Ari

His eyebrows shot up. He turned back to the path ahead of them to hide his confusion.

“If you want to, sure. You, you don’t…” He stopped walking again to turn a curious gaze on Moth. “You’re an archer? What bow do you prefer?”

  • @ellette-giselle

Thanks! Ari is technically from the “mythology”/history another WIP, but we were planning on writting his story as part of a background book for the series. His family is the one responsible for most of the chaos of his time…and later. XD

  • @whalekeeper

    Ari

“Kindness sn’t generally considered a masculine virtue in my family.” He shrugged again. “But when I was seven Halir carried me two miles back home when I was thrown from my horse. He and his twin are the closest to my age.”

  • @whalekeeper

    Ari

Moth stopped walking. Ari turned to look back at him.

    “Sometimes.”

The unsettling level of concern on the other boy’s face didn’t fade. Ari shoved down the rising discomfort.

“I’ve got four half-brothers, you know, warriors all decades older than me. The oldest was married with his own son before I showed up.” He folded his…[Read more]

    Ari

Unhappy? He shrugged. If he was being honest, he couldn’t remember the last time he had been what most people called happy. Content, safe…innocent.

What did those words even mean anymore?

“I don’t get thrashed here.” But then, he didn’t have a little brother and sister to stick up for. His eyes lost their faint l…[Read more]

Except they’re not NPCs, they’re just my characters and I’m making these things up as I go

    XD. Poor charies.

    Ari

“They are my advisors. If the story of the windlords calls you, you are surely meant to find meaning by it.”

The rising heat in his chest cooled as Moth spoke. Perhaps he was right. Ari pushed himself to his feet and hel…[Read more]

    Ari

He looked toward Moth though his eyes grew distant.

“Ari means eagle, one of the windlords. They live in the northern mountains if the stories are true. Great prey birds large enough to carry off horses. I’m going to look for them one day, see if the old rumors can be trusted.”

Yes, he would go look for the windlords. If he…[Read more]

Slowly, and a little painfully, Ari pushed himself up to his hands and knees. Air eased back into his lungs a bit more with each ragged breath. He’d known better than to tense up as the ground rose up to meet them, instead forcing himself to relax and look away. He’d appreciate that in the morning when he didn’t have any severe…[Read more]

    Falling.

Ari’s mouth opened to scream but no voice came. Blood rushed in his ears. He clung to Moth’s hand in a death grip. Sparks danced with the black sky.

    I’m not going to…not…

    Darkness. Silence.

    …

At last KP has let me in!

    Ari

Perhaps he wasn’t a bard himself, but this certainly didn’t seem to be the typical method of taleweaving. At least I’m not afraid of hights.

Colors, wind, light, they all conspired to dizzy him yet he couldn’t close his eyes. His pulse turned to a wild thrum in his head that mixed with the churning o…[Read more]
