Mikkel
Mikkel leaned back against the wall behind him. Why would someone willingly listen to the garbled wounds of a soldier, then ask for more? How long had he been talking?
What’s the time?
Mikkel dug his pocket watch out, before declaring, “Two thirty-five. Lovely time to be up at, don’t you think?” He closed the silver…[Read more]

One of my old WIPs was about some Irish and Jewish families during the civil war. It was set in the Piney Woods of East Texas, where I’ve grown up. It was waayyy too complicated for my writing experience at the time, but I may pick it back up someday.
But probably not.

That’s fine! It actually flows quite a bit smoother now. =)
Mikkel
“Anything else?” Mikkel’s head came up, memories swelling around him. His voice heavy. “There’s always everything else. There are no young men in the kingdom.”
If it would just stop…
“Better are the dead who have sorrow no more, I suppose.” He turned enough…[Read more]

Oops, I left off the next part. Do you want me to stick it in? If you’ve started one don’t worry about it, I’ll work it in.

“I suppose.” Mikkel slid down the wall, where he could rest his head on his knees.
“My father died in the first generation of this war. My mother was poisoned at a munitions plant. I have a sister.” Mikkel smiled faintly, “she never knew our father, or peace. I didn’t want to go, but when one generation is killed, the next must…[Read more]

A beautiful castle hall, decorated much like his home manor before the war. Mikkel stood near a raised dias, vague memories of his father, strong and laughing, carrying a protesting Mam to dinner. Of Mam herself, queen of her table, always a smile in her eyes.
Then the poster, asking for men.
Mikkel sighed, and leaned against…[Read more]

I’m figuring out how to make him talk, I just don’t think he would as long as they’re on that stairwell. So get them out, and ask him again, if you like. 😉

Mikkel
“We care about you, you know.”
“Thanks.” Mikkel slipped off his helmet, running fingers through greying hair. He absently wondered if it showed in the dim light. “I just… it’s nothing.” He shoved the memories back down, clamping one hand over his left hip.
Lier. “Nothing much.”
Still lier.
He took a few more steps…[Read more]

Mikkel
The lights flashed again, but this time he couldn’t hear the screams.
“I’m fine.” His voice snapped, the strained edges mocking him.
Eva’s step faltered, and the Lieutenant’s stopped completely.
Mikkel wanted to lie, to say it was just migraines, but they’d know better. “I’m sorry.” He whispered, and wiped the dampness…[Read more]

Exactly! That’s one huge reason I write so young. It’s awful, and I hate it.

Whatever Eva had just done rumpled Ezra even as it smoothed him. Interesting.
He smiled, but this time it didn’t reach his eyes. Wonderful times are gone. “As you say, sir.”
Fiddles, he’d said it.
Mikkel clicked the safety on his firearm. No brains in going around with a hot weapon.
The stair was dark, much like the lower…[Read more]

United states. He had obviously lightly offended the pilot.
Eva, the young woman, recovered. “And what brings you here, Private Mikkel Winston? And it’s a pleasure meeting you.”
She held out her hand.
Mikkel bowed over her hand, for an instant the proper son of a knight.
“I have little idea what forces brought me he…[Read more]

Zlatan and Vulkasin are waiting for others in that group to respond, but they’re probably going to be heading off after Lord Ocran soon. That would probably be a perfect time to meet. =)

Mikkel started when a young woman stepped in. He glanced away when the two met. Girlfriend?
The soldier, Lieutenant Ezra, turned back to him. “Agreed…but what about you? Who do you ally yourself with? And also, what’s your name?”
“Private Mikkel Winston, Mariner, 2nd division, soldier of the Pact.” Mikkel felt his heels click…[Read more]

Ooo, that’s hard to pick. Probably my favorite time’s to research are the various early medieval time periods. I dabble all over the place, but those are the most frequent. Otherwise WWI&II, or the recreation of the state of Israel.
And I have to go back to the castle!

Explanation: Zlatan is his world’s version of a Siberian prison officer. Reading Riker’s is making his story feel a little more real.
Maybe! 😉

The soldier lowered his pistol. “Happy now?”
Relief poured over Mikkel like water. Or cold sweat. He lowed his rifle barrel.
“Actually, chap, yes.” Mikkel looked the foreign soldier over. Unidentifiable uniform, dark hair and eyes, strange accent. First generation pistol. “Who are you allied with? Who’s that out in the hall with you?”
