@clairec Yes, you have the exact idea. I have only seen the movie ‘The little princess’ and that scene isn’t in there. 🙁
I mean them reading a different. It would be like me starting B & B now and in five minutes you read the book too. But up where you are.
@hope We have the Inkheart books but I have not yet gotten to them. And my name as in…[Read more] -

Ooh, wifi on vacation! Yessss…
*ahem* You’re quite welcome, @Sarah-H. 😀 As I see it, the only purpose of debate is to discuss and discover truth, and anything besides firm respect and consideration is, at the very least, completely unnecessary. I do my best to live by that rule.
And good for your brother he’s willing to stand up and defend…[Read more] -
Sarah Spradlin replied to the topic Structure and Character Arcs in the forum Characters 8 years, 2 months ago
Does the Hero’s Journey count as one (e.g. Star Wars)? That’d probably be my favorite if I had to pick one. That being said (as is probably evident from the fact that I write free-verse poetry), I’m a lot like @hope in that I just kinda go with whatever is happening in the story. If it follows a structure, great. If not, it’s not a huge concern as…[Read more]

So I’ve always wanted to know the answer to this question: What is everyone’s favorite type of structure and character arc? I’m talking about the Bell Curve, the Save the Cat! beats, the Hero’s Journey, the multiple act structure, the Three Act Structure (there are endless variations on this one, but I’m talking about the classic one), and there…[Read more]

I agree @hope. I feel like everything has been used already. I do like the idea of some government. (I’m thinking that instead of the typical overthrow, they reconcile in some exciting, entertaining way.) 🙂

Wow, everyone. Thanks for all the ideas. I think I can come up with something…
Why are both of Jaxes parents missing? Is he the main character? Is he more important than the others? Is he the key to unraveling a mystery, possibly the mystery of the missing parents?
@anne-swiftblade, So I was thinking that one parent was switched over to the…[Read more]

Can I add something @Daeus? It’s about overviews. Or summaries. Or telling (instead of showing). After reading Showing & Telling: Learn How to Show & When to Tell for Powerful & Balanced Writing by Laurie Alberts I believe that summaries is rather essential to stories. I know that contradicts “show don’t tell” but hear me out.
You need to use…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper: Why, yes, I have seen Big Hero 6! Have you read The Art of Big Hero 6 by Jessica Julius? It has some fantastic concept art pieces in it! By the way, dragons are great. Really, really great. Being a dragon sounds awesome ;).
@hope: thanks for the welcome! I agree. -

@hope I don’t know; I don’t really consider myself an expert on the male mind. :p Most of what I can think of is already tooted in conservative circles.
@rolena-hatfield Very little: As a kid, I put together a slideshow or two of two cats with subtitles that had an annoying song which was probably not appropriate for children. Then when I and…[Read more]

@hope Hmm, yes I should say it’s hard (knowing a thing or two about that). I think I’m starting to get the hang of it though. Let’s hope. Oh wait, I should say ‘let’s Hope’. Congratulations on your promotion to a verb.
