Hope Ann replied to the topic Newsflash: Missing Cat, but how did it escape? in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 8 years, 7 months ago
What kind of doors does your house have? I’ve a friend who has a number of cats, some of which are very clever. Her doors are mainly lever doors (with the long handles instead of knobs) and the cats know how to open them. Perhaps a door wasn’t locked and the cat was able to open on of the lever doors and then push open the screen door (or maybe…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy 108 chapters left to go? Oh dear… 😉 And I thought correcting fifty some chapters took awhile.

You know you’re a writer when you lay in bed at night and can’t decide if you want to mull over a retelling of Robin Hood for a family movie, or a retelling of a fairy tale for your novella…

Yes…I think it’s half an hour and then you can’t edit the post anymore. I’m not sure why it’s like that, but it is.

@adry_grace Hmm, I hadn’t thought of those questions. Why are the princesses (though they probably won’t really be princesses in my story) having to sneak out? And who is watching/guarding them? And why?

@rolena-hatfield Ooo, I really like Ruth Sanderson’s paintings…I wonder if our library has her retelling of the story?
And a secret castle or hideout; that’s a good idea. 😉
Hmm *slips into rambling mode to think better…no one need take notice*
Why are the princesses dancing? What are they really doing and what are they trying to hide in t…[Read more]

I’d say so. I mean, almost everything is a reaction to something earlier when you think about it. Something bad happens and the character reacts, either by taking charge and moving on, or by failing, and the results his his actions are then reacted on by others and the circle goes round and round and round and round…People rarely do something…[Read more]

I think romance can work as a subplot, to help with character development or add depth. I never intended to write romance, but it slipped into some of my stories. It’s subtle, part of the background really. In another WIP it helps soften a character and give him depth as well as something to fight for. It’s natural. But I’d not add romance simply…[Read more]

As some of you might know, I’m writing a novella series retelling fairy tales while weaving in the fruit of the Spirit. Anyhow, my first one was a retelling Beauty and the Beast and was about love. The second one is focusing on joy and is a retelling of Rapunzel. Right now I’m trying to plan the third story which will focus on peace.
I want to…[Read more]

Yes, that’s how I was pronouncing his name! 😉 I love coming up with names; well, I do when they come easily and I’m not spending days trying to decide if I like a certain name or not. 😉

Love the names, especially Eon (though I suspect I’m not saying it right in my head).
As for the scene… *rubs hands and puts on critique glasses*
I think Eon’s emotions need to run deeper. That we should see more of his thoughts and his emotion the clenching of a hand, the tightening of the chest, the rapid beat of his heart. I don’t know if…[Read more]

@writefury There is a little more romance in the movie, but not too much. There’s a little more action towards the end and it does stray from the book though the idea is the same. But I enjoyed it.

@writefury I’ve read the first book and enjoyed it well enough. But our library doesn’t have the others and I didn’t feel like buying them. Have you seen the movie The Giver? I almost liked it better than the book; there was more of a conclusion.

@Kate-Flournoy I read Lord of the Flies a few years ago. It was really interesting; different from anything I’d read and yet fascinating. It reminded me a little of Animal Farm by Orwell.

You know you’re a writer if you wonder if it’s completely morbid of you to think having a picnic at a graveyard and then walking among the stones and finding names would be an enjoyable evening.
