“That’s a great idea!” Liv smiled. “Where do you want to go? I’m not really familiar with a lot of the foods here.”

She laughed. “Yeah,” she smiled. “You did.”
She sighed. “How long do dance classes last? Not that I don’t love it…but it feels like we’ve been here for hours!”

“You know…you didn’t have to be scared, I was hoping you would ask me ever since we met,” she blushed. “As much as I hated to admit it, Xandro was right.”

I didn’t get notified by your tag for sone reason.
I don’t really have much to add. Setting is definitely important, but less so than characters and plot.
I don’t really know what to advise, because I’ve never tried to create a new setting for a story that is already well under way. (I almost always create the setting first.) I would…[Read more]

Chemistry is actually pretty fun…from what I’ve done! We did physical science last year, and I really enjoyed it!

Welcome to KP! I’m Janessa, aka Trailblazer, because I love hiking and mountains. I write a lot of contemporary fiction, too (same thing as realistic, I’m pretty sure) and also historical fiction. I’ve done some mystery and dipped my toes into journalism as well.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
What is your current WIP…[Read more]

So I just saw the other comments saying that the setting isn’t as big a deal. Personally I think setting is very important, but it also depends on who you are as the author, and what kind of story you want to write.

So this is a good thing to be aware of when writing your story. Your definitely right that you want to have your setting more tied into the plot. I like how Brandon Sanderson puts it: Character, setting, and conflict are the three pieces, and the plot is the glue that keeps them together in a story.
You care about your characters,…[Read more]

So glad you liked my blog. Thanks for checking it out. I am working really hard on it!
What is my dream vacay? I would like to visit Newfoundland sometime. It might be a kind of strange destination, but I am not really into the touristy stuff. Newfoundland sounds cool (literally. The snow there is crazy!)
Favourite childhood TV show…[Read more]

She inhaled sharply as Lukas briefly pulled her into his arms.
“Thanks,” she sighed, smiling at him, “I needed that. When Aubrielle died…” she sighed. “Our family just fell apart. My brothers and parents were distant, and I’d just felt so alone…and then they sent me to school. All I had was Xandro. It’s been a long time since…[Read more]

@esther-c I’m glad you asked! It’s about a lady who writes a book to get some extra money, but she writes it all about her neighbors because she claims she has no imagination. The plot unfolds as her neighbors recognize themselves in her book and begin searching for who wrote it. The different side plots are intertwined extremely well, and it’s…[Read more]

Only advice I have is just brainstorming. If you want it to be really unique, think of a different concept or idea that could maybe be tied into the story, but I don’t think it has to. If the plot and characters are good readers won’t care if the setting isn’t super distinct. Maybe @thearcaneaxiom could help? (Sorry if she already tagged you.)

@esther-c Hey, there! I feel you with that myriad of ideas lol
My dream vacation would probably be to visit Africa, it’s just so beautiful! Of course, the first character to pop into my mind is Jack. He’s a man made out of yarn (long story lol), and he’s super clumsy and hilarious, but it’s partly a ruse to hide his guilt and loneliness. He also…[Read more]
