Here’s some epic quotes from Ryo from a story I wrote when I was 8.Â
Why the story I wrote when I was 8, and not a more recent story? Well, 8 years was when I peaked. Ever since then, both my writing and my cuteness declined. My face is kinda like cryptocurrency sometimes. Meaning, it goes up in value, down in value, and Elon Musk wants to send…[Read more]

The Premise to your WIP sound interesting! Do you have any favorite characters from the novel yet?
Also, flying is an awesome choice. I’d probably choose the same thing. If I could fly, I’d probably hang out on rooftops and trees all the time, haha.

@godlyfantasy21 This is a cool idea! ^-^

Cool! I agree; it can be really cool to step back in time with fantasy. 🙂
That’s an interesting take on the story!

Hi there! I’m Ariel (or Archer), and I also hang out around Story Embers!
I’ll add a couple of questions to Kathleen’s:
1. What’s your favorite element of your fantasy world?
2. What’s the defining feature of your Cinderella retelling, as opposed to other retellings (if you can share without spoilers)?
Welcome to KP!

@kathleenramm I pretty much just practiced writing for a while, then I took a couple of courses on style and things, and then I just wrote a ton until sometime last year when I felt like my style is more like what it is now. And it’s still developing, though right now I’m finally finding it satisfactory.

Ugh, I could go on forever with characters too, haha.
Out of all the character you’ve created, do you have one you know the best?
Yo, I’m not even surprised that people always compliment you on your pros. It’s one of a kind.
Was pros something that came naturally to you or did you have to work on…[Read more]

Hi! Welcome to the Kingdom of Pen! It’s awesome to have you here!
Just a few questions to get to know each other better:
1. What’s the premise of your fantasy novel?
2. When and why did you start writing?
3. Would you rather be able to breath underwater or fly?
Great to meet your acquaintance! Catch you…[Read more]

R.M. Archer replied to the topic How to know if your book should be a standalone or series? in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 6 months ago
I’m glad the conversation was a blessing!
Thank you! I really appreciate that. ^-^
Exactly.
I think I would agree with that. It can definitely be helpful to consider age when deciding what to include or not, what tone to go with or avoid, etc. as you’re thinking through a new idea.
I can see younger teens avoiding the YA section.…[Read more]

I think that can still work as YA. Based on my personal experience, though, you might have an easier time getting older teens to read about characters in a variety of ages than getting younger teens to read it. When I was a younger teen, I was much more into reading about teenagers, and it was only as I got older and more mature…[Read more]

@kathleenramm My biggest weakness is probably editing. Editing is the thing I’ve spent least time on. It always makes me feel like I’ve never edited enough lol.
Biggest strength? At this point, probably my prose. That’s the only thing I get consistently complimented on.

What’s your biggest strength and weakness as a writer?
For me, probably my biggest weakness is staying consistent. I usually write a bunch all at once and then ghost my story for weeks until my schedule is a bit more relaxed or I have a sudden burst of motivation and disregard sleep almost entirely, haha.So yeah, that’s something I’ve struggled…[Read more]

It sounds like you have a good understanding of where lines need to be drawn in your own fiction! That’s an important understanding to have, and I’m glad you’re holding to that. 🙂
I was actually thinking about Calligraphy Guild (among other things) for parts of this conversation. XD The primary main character and her love interest…[Read more]

No, I actually completely agree with you on content levels. That’s something I’m quite passionate about; explicit adult content (of any level of description; I do think such topics can be alluded to for edifying ends) should not be put in the YA section. It’s a stumbling block and it’s inappropriate. But I don’t think that more mature…[Read more]

I’m going to disagree with this point, actually. I think that 1) if your characters carry through a series that begins with them at a certain age, your readers will follow them through that and may even go through that growth with the characters. Take Harry Potter, for example. I’m not a fan of HP, personally, but plenty of kids “grew up with”…[Read more]
