Hope Ann started the topic Quick Critique in the forum Novel Critique Requests 8 years, 3 months ago
I’ve been working on the blurb for my novel, Fidelyon, and wondered if any of you had any critiques. Especially regarding the flow of the first few lines, directly followed bye the prophecy. I’m considering taking out the bolded sentences…I’m not sure. (also, what is the official name for these things? Blurbs? Book Descriptions? Reader Traps? ;)…[Read more]

@daeus Consider me properly inspired…after I get the next several books on my tbr list done. But you and @Kate-flournoy have talked about it so much that I want to read it. Also, I saw the movie. Which I really liked, though I could tell things were sped up even though it didn’t seem rushed. Have you seen the movie, Daeus?

Greetings, @theliterarycrusader! I have a MC who is an INFJ. I’m a INTJ myself…a type that is pretty rare among women (0.8%). I’ve read most, if not all of Chuck Black’s works too. I enjoyed The War of the Realm trilogy. The idea was very interesting even if the writing isn’t the best. 🙂

@kate-flournoy No, I’ve not read The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I’ve not read Les Miserables either, though my sister has… Right now I want to get my hands on The Count of Monte Cristo and read that sometime this fall/winter.

@aella I will fight alongside the rest of you! *straps on sword* *checks on daggers and bow* I’ve never done NaNoWriMo, though I have done some of the camps. But I do want to this year. I’m going to be writing a novella and a prequel to the novella, so I’m thinking around 45,000 words. I’m planning on planning and outlining the story in September…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic Variation for Capture the Flag ideas? in the forum Fantasy 8 years, 3 months ago
Or maybe fight with real weapons…like in Percy Jackson? They have some pretty intense games of capture the flag there. @Jada-morrison’s idea is good too. Perhaps they have to capture a person. Or perhaps one team member on the opposite is a spy and no one on either side know who it is so everyone is sending out spies and making alliances. And…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic Faith and Prayer in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 3 months ago
@corissa-maiden-of-praise Ooo, that is a tough question. Hmmm…
I could argue for both sides, so I guess I’ll start by asking is it a Biblical idea that preparing for an answer to prayer is a sign of faith. Or is it a sign of presumption?
I’ve not studied this but I think assuming the answer is a bit presumptuous. After all, when we’re asking…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic Mercy Killings in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 3 months ago
@kate-flournoy I agree completely. There’s a line I love from a book…I can’t remember if they were talking about assassination or war in general, but one character asked another (who was a Christian) if he had trouble killing people who weren’t saved. The character basically replied to the tenor of ‘if God is going to save them, then He’ll…[Read more]

Another related topic, since we’re back on this thread. Assassinations. Can they ever be right? Assassinations in peacetime on civilians. No. Assassination of leaders. I’d say no…God commands us to obey leaders, even if they are bad. But what about war (I’ve lots of wars in my books…). Again, in war I’d say assassination against civilians is…[Read more]

after all, war is only necessary because of evil, and the object of war is to annihilate that evil. Unless you would class a friend or loved one as evil, war’s ‘permissibles’ would not apply to them, I’m thinking.
Yes, good point. And that is what I figured, I just like bringing up any sort of scenarios I can.
Now you’ve got me wanting t…

So I’ve been thinking about a different angle of this whole ‘what is permissible in war and in defense of others’ type of question. We’ve established earlier that life is given by God and isn’t just something for man to take whenever they wish. Ok. Yes. I agree. However, we don’t live in a perfect world. War does not change what is right and…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic If there's one thing rewriting has taught me… in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 3 months ago
@bluejay no, I’ve not ready Ella Enchanted, though I’ve seen the movie. *smirks*
@Gabrielle Oh yes, always. Actually, what I tend to do when I’m making drastic changes, is copy the document and archive a copy of it ‘as is’ then go ahead and edit to my heart’s content because I know I can always go back to something and get it if I need it.

@emma-flournoy Yes, you have a point there too. I’m not saying one should include everything. But I’ve seen it done in more than one book…one was an alternate beginning and the other included bits of a character who’d been taken out. In both cases, I agreed it was better the way the author had written it, but at the same time it was fun to see…[Read more]
