Alia replied to the topic United as Christians in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 3 months ago
@joy-caroline, this is so true! Where I grew up there weren’t many believers, and those that were there were from all different kinds of denominations. If our core beliefs are the same, when we can show a unity to the world that other religions don’t have the ability to do. Because we are united in Christ

SeekJustice replied to the topic What is a popular book that you dislike? Why do you dislike it? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 3 months ago
Everyone has already said my absolute least favourite book, Pride and Prejudice, so I’ll mention another very popular book I really, really hated. I could not bear Oliver Twist, it was awful, it was boring, it was convoluted, Oliver wasn’t even a person, more of a plot point. This was highly disappointing because I love Dickens (h…[Read more]

Hello! How are you? I’m the resident Australian weird person.
What sort of things do you like writing? What about reading? What are a few of your recent favourite reads? My recent favourites were The Night Circus, and Frankenstein.Â

@joy-caroline Perhaps do some sort of prologue at the beginning of your book? Or you could drop subtle details, maybe like similar mannerisms and physical traits that your reader will catch but your characters won’t.

@abigail-m I really want to do some research on Norway. Hopefully I’ll get an idea while learning about it XD And I’ll definitely ask you if/when I ever have questions about ancient Russia. Thanks!

Also, I second @abigail-m and her suggestion of Hillsdale’s online courses. THEY ARE AMAZING. I’ve already gone through a few (the Genesis one is incredible!!) and I’ve even been able to get some high school credit for it.

@e-k-seaver Unfortunately not, but I do intend on rejoining! I was on it for about two years until around April of last year when I decided to take a break because it was becoming a bit distracting. I still talk to lots of Ydubbers though because they’re all like my best friends XD Are you on Ydubs?

@writerlexi1216 Yes, I wish I could live there too! *cries* It’s probably my favorite fictional world! Have you read Prince Caspian?
Nice! I got the name from a friend at school. I wasn’t very creative with names XD The Lily the hamster was truly an epic sidekick. She even had a cape!
Ooh, a story about peacocks sounds very fun XD

@gracie-j I love every single time period you just mentioned XD I’ve been super interested in pirates lately, but more towards the beginning of the 1800s. I’ve yet to write a pirate book yet, though. Soon hopefully! I’ve tried writing a story set in the Wild West but I never finished it.
You should definitely read The Miraculous Journey of…[Read more]

@nova21 Okay, so I’m actually working on rewriting my beginning right now as well XD It’s really hard so I understand your problem! Last week I watched a webinar with Nadine Brandes and Sara Ella about writing your first chapter and it was FANTASTIC so I’ll share some of my notes with you!

The Young Writers Workshop has helped me A TON in my writing. It’s kind of expensive (same price as hope*writers, I believe) but it was totally worth it in my opinion. K. M. Weiland’s blog is also really helpful. 🙂
