R.M. Archer replied to the topic What is your biggest struggle as a writer? (Long rants welcome) in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
Oof, I definitely relate to the internet procrastination (and general poor time management) @gracie-j mentioned. That’s a huge one. Sitting down to write is such a difficulty. XP
Also, balancing out my dialogue with description. This one is infuriating because I know I can write strong description. I’ve done all sorts of writing exercises and…[Read more]

@leon-fleming The enneagram is a personality type system. There are nine types, with various configurations (as evidenced by my long ramble, lol). It’s my personal favorite, since it seems to me the most accurate and helpful of those I’ve learned about.

@leon-fleming LOL. I think the snow globe was inspired by the trailer for the Barbie Nutcracker movie. XD (And then, of course, there are the characters ripped off from The Boxcar Children… and the following stories were rip-offs of Terry Brooks’ Landover books… XD XD)
Yours is really good for a first story! It’s definitely stilted in places,…[Read more]

@gracie-j Will do! 🙂 (I actually have a lot of enneagram blogging stuff planned for the semi-near future, lol.)
I’m instantly inclined to say 4. Maybe with a 3 wing. I can also maybe see 7? But I think probably 4. (And a 4 would integrate to 7, so it’s possible that’s where the 7 comes in. Or it could be in his tri-type.)

@gracie-j Oh dear… There are so many exclamation marks… XD
The last paragraph sounds like so many of my early stories. “Let’s make kids spies/royalty/etc! Clearly they’re perfectly qualified! :D”

@gracie-j At some point I’m planning on doing a blog series about what would motivate each of the types to go evil and, in contrast, what would make them an excellent hero. There are definitely those of all types who do good and who do evil. ;P I actually find it kind of interesting to see how each type’s different facets lend themselves to either…[Read more]

@leon-fleming I don’t have the first story I wrote (thank heavens), but I can point you to a whole document of my early stories (approximately story #3 and onward; they were all quite short) and ensuing snarky commentary from myself and friends. XD
Oh boy. I just looked at the document and it’s soooooo cringy… Seven-year-old me was rather…[Read more] -

@gracie-j Oof… Apparently I share a type with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. ;P I also get Audrey Hepburn and Ronald Reagan, though, and you get C.S. Lewis and Julie Andrews. So it’s not all bad. ;D

@gracie-j LOL. I’ve done blog interviews before, so I’m less worried about the actual interview aspect of it. It’s mostly the fact that it’s by video, so I’ll have to keep conversation moving, to a degree, instead of being able to just ask people a bunch of questions and then get their responses. XD

@lewilliams Absolutely! 🙂 I don’t have any tips for finding your tri-type beyond research. 😛 There might be tests you can take that specifically include your tri-type? But I’m not sure.
I think my stronger wing is 8, though my mom might disagree and say it’s 1, lol. (My mom sees my 1 tendencies way more than I do, for some reason.) When I first…[Read more]

@gracie-j Now that I’ve announced the thing for Saturday, I can tell you what it is. ;D I’m recording a panel interview with four Christian authors, which will go up next Tuesday! 😀 😀 It’ll be Miranda Marie, Mattie May, Angela Watts, and Brian McBride. ^-^
Sooo, the reason tests aren’t as reliable is because they measure behavior. The enneagram…[Read more]

@gracie-j Ah, the black hole of Pinterest. I’m well-acquainted. ;D
Sooo… first of all, may I explain why tests are less accurate than personal research? That’s probably the best starting place, as well as the least likely to bury you in a bunch of complicated information and numbers. XD

@gracie-j *bows* I would be honored to operate as the resident diplomat. And, um… black eyes aren’t the best way to resolve conflicts… *gently lowers your hand*
Ooooh. You shouldn’t have told me that. *chuckles* Now I may feel compelled to ask if you’d like to hear about how the enneagram works and why tests aren’t always accurate and why…[Read more]

@e-k-seaver LOL. I imagine Andrew Peterson and N.D. Wilson would be worth it, though. Especially if you can take a book along to keep you occupied during the boring sessions.
@gracie-j I’m a type 9! (Also a complete enneagram nerd, so… if you ever want to ramble about how the system works, I’m your girl. XD)

@leon-fleming Sounds like fun!
@e-k-seaver That’s super cool. I might have to see about tagging along with my grandma or my dad to more of those. XD (They both work in big homeschooling circles, so my grandma, especially, goes to a bunch of conferences.)

@leon-fleming That sounds cool! What real-world mythology did you use?
@e-k-seaver You’ve met both of them? Duuuude. That’s awesome. I would love to meet them someday (Peterson especially). Maybe they’ll be at RealmMakers whenever I finally get to go. XD

@seekjustice Calligraphy Guild was honestly sort of wish-fulfillment. XD There’s this group of indie authors I follow who work together and are friends and whatnot that I would love to be a part of one day, plus the idea of having an in-person community of authors who work together (which they are not; that’s just an additional impossible wish,…[Read more]

I haven’t yet decided whether or not to leave, personally. There are definitely compelling reasons to leave (as mentioned, heavy LGBTQ+ promotion and approaches to the race issue…[Read more]
