Cool! I’m working on my second book (totally different structure/feel than the other ones I’m working on) It has a hero reaching rock bottom moment too, still working out the kinks (as in I haven’t even started outlining XD)

Ooh, that’s very helpful. Thanks so much!
Okay, question, so you mentioned that the whole ‘brainwashing’ thing isn’t that realistic, so would you stick with that even in a fantasy story? Where brainwashing could be very realistic? Or not?

Thanks for offering, though I’m not looking for beta-readers quite yet. 😉 Your enthusiasm is encouraging, though, and I’ll remember y’all when I’m searching for beta-readers. 🙂
I watched Abbie Emmons’s video on beta readers and she recommend…

Ok, thx!
I have yet to figure out my style. I’ve been trying to read articles on style and such but haven’t written enough to figure mine out yet. I know that I do much better writing in 1st person instead of third person but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.
Yeah. In all honesty, I still need to figure out my style as well. Like, my olde…[Read more]

Oof. I also have difficulties with this. (I think every author does at some point.)
I’ll just echo @booksbyjayna and say keep writing and study the authors you want to emulate. I’ve seen it work and will definitely be personally implementing it as much as I can.

I’ve never heard of that before! Sounds interesting.
I call myself a plantser. (Plotter/pantser) I used to be a pantser, but found out that didn’t work for me, so I am now a plantser. I write out a short summary for each chapter and follow that as my outline. But I let it change as I write. For example, the last half or maybe mor…[Read more]

@mineralizedwritings Ha, it’s the opposite for me. Sorry for confusing you @booksbyjayna!

For me, plotting is filling out how my character motivations/themes/goals will come to be (what needs to be shown to the reader when, and what should be left for latter?), and outlining is deciding exactly what events come about to show them, and trying to connect them in a orderly fashion.

@booksbyjayna Never heard of it, but then again, I might outline but I never plot. If I plot, I can’t write it. It’s kinda the way I am…..

Ah! Your rebuttal to my befuddle scuttles my nettle! Indeed I might at least spell newby with an ie (or mayhap I may pawn off my gaffe by inquiring if you are from northern England.)Â Now, the real question is, “What might I accomplish at the most?”
