Mel didn’t shiver from the cold at all, and her coat wasn’t wet; she bit her lip and studied the garden as if she owned the place herself.

“No. I’m trying to get out of here, actually.” Barnes adjusted her mask by grabbing the chin and pushing up. “Do you mind telling me why you’re here?”

Barnes. That was a funny name. Mel imagined a row of big red barns, each with a different kind of farm animal living inside.

“I’m Mel.”

She scanned the rest of the area with her flashlight.

“Do you live here?” It now occurred to her that she may be trespassing, and she didn’t want to get in trouble.

(But I totally get what you mean. I have a drawing I’ve been slowly working on, off and on, for about a year. All I have left are her feet and half her hair, but it’s still sitting on my desk, unfinished.)
