@seekjustice, I misread what you asked….oops
It’s a new story that I’ve had in my head for a while. Here’s what I told @rochellaine:
Its a sci-fi/dystopian story. The world has been at war for several decades. One of the groups goes around secretly testing kids and then kidnapping the smart ones at 9 to fight as their soldiers. At first the kids think it is a computer simulation until they realize that the bots they are controlling are actually killing. But if they donβt follow orders then their entire pod is punished.
It starts out with the MC (17) waking up to her normal day of training and fighting. Then when she and her pod are rescued they have to go on trial, but since all of them have been brainwashed and isolated from other people basically the oldest ones are considered a threat to society and put in prison again.
The isolation started when they were around nine years old. They could talk to other people but they never saw them or touched them (they were locked in a room). And the people they talked to were very limited. A pod usually has about 20 kids, and then there are the superiors. So depending on how many superiors your pod has, you might hear anything from 21-25 different voices.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 16, 2018 at 10:31 pm #75238No worries. I just rolled with it.
Oh yes! I was stalking the topic the other day and saw that. It sounds pretty cool and reminds me a bit of Ender’s Game.
I definitely think that sort of isolation would be damaging, but maybe not as much as complete isolation. Are they allowed to be friends with each other or do they just exist with each other?

July 16, 2018 at 10:32 pm #75239@seekjustice Haha, yes! π By the way, speaking of Alia’s story, you should definitely read the Mars Diaries by Sigmund Brouwer.Β Seriously.Β They’re amazing. π
@alia πΒ You like The Princess Bride?I’m very interested in how you make your new story different from Brouwer’s.Β I love the premise, because of course I love his books and I love sci-fi, and I’d like to see what you do with it.

July 16, 2018 at 10:37 pm #75240I hadn’t heard of theΒ Mars Diaries before your conversation the other day but I’ll definitely have to look them up now π they aren’t in the vein of what I usually read, but every now and again its good to read something out of your comfort zone π

July 16, 2018 at 10:38 pm #75241@seekjustice Oh no!Β If you read our conversation…wow, that contained MAJOR spoilers!! πΒ Hopefully you can still enjoy the books. π

July 16, 2018 at 10:44 pm #75242@rochellaine, I love the princess bride. And all the quotes are perfect for everyday use.
I’d like to see what I do with it too, I have my outline but I have no clue if I can even write sci fi.
Spoilers such as *cough* Ashley? *cough*
@seekjustice, Well, it was partially based of Ender’s Game. plus Eye of Minds and Robot Wars/Mars DiariesTheir conversation isn’t really monitored so yes. Especially between the pod leaders.
You should definitely read them. They’re really good.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 16, 2018 at 10:46 pm #75243When it comes to spoilers in books I have the memory of a walnut and so by the time I actually get around to reading it I’ll have forgotten π

July 16, 2018 at 10:50 pm #75245@seekjustice, well thats a nice thing to have. my brain remembers everything so I am rarely surprised when it comes to books/movies/tv shows

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 16, 2018 at 10:57 pm #75246Cool! I’ve yet to read Ender’s Game but I’v heard a lot of good things about it.
In that case, I think theΒ situation would be quite traumatic, but they wouldn’t necessarily be isolated. Though they do lack parent and adult figures which could potentially be problematic.

July 16, 2018 at 10:59 pm #75247@seekjustice I’m not sure whether that’s a good or a bad thing… πΒ Does that mean you just don’t remember spoilers people tell you, or does it mean you can’t discuss books after you read them…? π
@alia I like to write sci-fi when I don’t have to do much research. πΒ I love researching history, and everyday – or non-everyday – things, but I’m not as into technology, so when I write sci-fi it’s more speculative sci-fi or the science is brushed over."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
July 16, 2018 at 11:04 pm #75248It just means I forget books about a week after reading them. π which means maximum enjoyment in rereading. I’m not so good at forgetting people’s names though, so I will remember that something terrible happens to Ashley. π

July 16, 2018 at 11:09 pm #75249@seekjustice, I don’t recommend it. I read it when I was going through a stage where I was completely running from God, and that is the only reason I didn’t put it down. The language in it is disgusting, especially since they have kids say the words. The movie is much better because it sticks fairly close to the story line, minus a few things, but cuts the cussing way down.
I’m trying to research physical touch isolation, but everything I find is for full isolation so I’ll probably go with traumatic.
@rochellaine, I like things to be as realistic as possible, so this book is going to have a ton of research from medical subjects, to war strategy, to possible tech. For me sci fi probably has the most research that I will have to do.WIP - Decisions
Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 16, 2018 at 11:10 pm #75250@seekjustice, dang, to re-feel everything like it was the first time. I really wish I could do that.
Well, at least we only gave you one name

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 16, 2018 at 11:19 pm #75251Ergh, that’s a pity. I’ve only heard mostly good things about it.
Sometimes the internet is super helpful and sometimes its the opposite.
And I don’t forget everything, not the important parts, but often I completely forget the subplots π

July 16, 2018 at 11:22 pm #75252Maybe you could try looking up things like touch deprivation. I don’t think that’s exactly what you want but it could be helpful.
