Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 14, 2018 at 4:18 pm #75153@rochellaine Hello! I’m doing pretty well. My book is coming along, I may even write some today. (If I finish getting these wrinkles out of this outline.) 😛
@alia Oh, how fun! New book ideas can be intriguing, or distracting… ;PIMMA KAPEEFER! Til we're old and gray!
July 14, 2018 at 4:19 pm #75154July 14, 2018 at 4:20 pm #75155@catwing, I’m pretty excited about this one, but because it deals with a lot of psychology and medical things I have to do a ton of research

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 14, 2018 at 4:26 pm #75156@rochellaine, Its a sci-fi/dystopian story. The world has been at war for several decades. One of the groups goes around secretly testing kids and then kidnapping the smart ones at 9 to fight as their soldiers. At first the kids think it is a computer simulation until they realize that the bots they are controlling are actually killing. But if they don’t follow orders then their entire squadron is punished.
It starts out with the MC (17) waking up to her normal day of training and fighting. Then when she and her squadron are rescued they have to go on trial, but since all of them have been brainwashed and isolated from other people basically the oldest ones are considered a threat to society and put in prison again.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 14, 2018 at 4:31 pm #75158@alia Oh, I absolutely love the Mars Diaries/Robot Wars by Sigmund Brouwer! Have you ever read them? They have basically the exact same premise. If you haven’t read them, you definitely should!!

July 14, 2018 at 4:36 pm #75159@rochellaine, I’ve read them, and love them. I kinda claimed the family copy of book one for myself since I own the rest of the series. 🙂
I actually based this book idea on a mixture of those books and Ender’s Game. (just saying, I don’t really like the ender’s game book or movie but the movie provided some cool visual ideas).

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 14, 2018 at 4:43 pm #75160@alia Something I find interesting about them is that the author was basically spot on with what technology we’d have by 2040. They’re making cars that can drive themselves with GPS; tracker chips are in wide use already; you can control robots with your brain. It’s all getting real. Have you noticed that?
I was at a homeschool conference in June where I see one of my good friends once a year, and I saw a full set of the Mars Diaries on sale for $20. I made her get them, and she promised to tell me what she thought. She hasn’t read them yet, or at least, I haven’t had an email from her, but I raved about them for a while to her, and I hope she likes them after that. 😛
My brother actually got them each as they came out, so when he read book 4, and Ashley died…he had to wait six months or so before he could read book 5! Which book do you like best? (Oh, do you have the Mars Diaries, or the Robot Wars?)
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
July 14, 2018 at 4:53 pm #75161@rochellaine, Robot Wars. I haven’t had the chance to read Mars Diaries yet, but I wan to.
I keep trying to get a friend of mine to read them, but she has a huge list of books to read already and she keeps going back to her favorites so I don’t think she is going to get around to them anytime soon
My mom got us the first one to see if we would like them, but then didn’t get any of the other ones for the longest time. Then for my birthday a few years back I got book 2-5. The last one was weird because everyone was soooooo old. like I get that its been three years, but I was still telling Tyce and Ashley that they were way to young to be romantically interested in eachother because in my mind they were still 14 or 15.
I really like the first book. And reading about Tyce’s experiences on earth was hilarious. especially the mosquito part.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 14, 2018 at 4:57 pm #75162@rochellaine, oops, didn’t see the first part of your post.
I have noticed that. I love it when the futuristic books are realistic with what might happen. Especially when they are only set a few years into the future.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 14, 2018 at 5:01 pm #75163@alia Okay, so the Mars Diaries are basically the exact same as the Robot Wars, but with different names. You know that, right? 😉 There are ten Mars Diaries, and the Robot Wars combines two in each book. They were published as ten books first, then I guess people forgot about them and they decided to republish them and combine them so there would be only five books in the series, but the books would be longer.
I don’t know if there are any differences in the stories, like if he updated or rewrote any of them, since I haven’t actually read the Robot Wars. There are probably a few changes. But they’re basically the same books.
Haha! Yeah, they’re seventeen in the last book. And anyway, they don’t do anything but dance, except I think she kisses his cheek in one of the books, so it’s not like it turns into a romance story or anything. 😛
My favorites were the scenes in the pod room and with the kid/robots. They really freaked me out, (I was like ten when I first read them) but I also thought it was really cool, and nice that he got to rescue them. The interactions with the military guy during those parts were really funny too, especially when Tyce said he needed to cut his bootlaces up! I like how all the characters are really well described and given distinct personalities, even the minor ones.

July 14, 2018 at 5:03 pm #75164@alia Well, they were written in the nineties, right? So it’s set forty years in the future, from when he predicted the stuff. It’s a lot closer now, and that’s why I’m impressed with how well he depicted what the future would be like. And we might actually have our first female president around 2040. 😉
