Oh. I must have been dozing off when I read that part πŸ˜‚

But my suggestions for Mathias are the same. Figure out what his motivations are, maybe think about how his relationship with his superior officer Caderousse and his fellow soldiers are etc. So far to me Mathias feels rather unnecessary. He seems to be there just to show that not all the guards are evil or something and to divide the original Javert’s character into two so that this retelling does not replicate Les Mis too much.

OK let me know when your second draft is ready! πŸ˜€

Never mind πŸ™‚ People often point out my own misinterpretations of my own writing. At least you can be excused for mixing up minor details πŸ˜›

Well, originally he was there to get around the plot hole in Les Mis–the fact that no one recognised Javert until it was convenient, even though there were three people at least who should have been able to. And then he became a major factor in the original epilogue I wrote, which was then replaced with the current one and now he’s a major character in the third book.

He was also there to provide the Valjean/Javert contrast. Mathias and Caderousse were essentially the same, but they reacted two different ways to mercy–Mathias changing and becoming better, the way Valjean does, and Caderousse killing herself.

But I’ll definitely work on his character more.

@seekjustice Hey, are you still awake?Β  I’m here now. πŸ™‚

The soundtrack I was listening to was from a musical called The Apple Tree.Β  Ever heard of it?

I’m awake and watching a sermon with mg parents.

            No I haven’t. I’ll look it up.

@seekjustice Cool!Β  Who’s the speaker?Β  My favorite is Paul Washer, but though he’s famous among us U.S. homeschoolers, I don’t think you’ve heard of him. πŸ˜›

Aaand, I probably haven’t heard of your speaker either, but…tell me anyway? πŸ˜‰

No I haven’t heard of him, this speaker is Louie Giglio from Passion Church in Atlanta. Have you heard of him?

I’m just looking at the synopsis. It looks pretty cool, especially the second story so far.

@seekjustice Hm, I seem to recognize the name.Β  I think I may have heard of him before.Β  I’ll have to look him up.

And you should definitely look up Paul Washer.Β  He’s amazing, and very passionate.

Ah, haha!Β  I was thinking that would be the one you would like. πŸ˜›Β  I’m not sure which one I like best.Β  I just watched on YouTube the American Playhouse adaption of The Diaries of Adam and EveΒ and absolutely loved it.Β  It made me laugh at the beginning and cry at the end, so it’s got both sides, which is probably why I loved it.Β  So because I was coming from that I was very interested in the first part of the musical, but the second is an interesting concept, and the third, if you listen to the song “Gorgeous,” is really funny.

My brother says he found the original version of The Diaries to be a bit blasphemous when he read it, but the adaption seemed not to be very much so.Β  It spoke of Creation in six days, and God as being the Creator, so that was good.Β  It’s a comic parody, so I didn’t expect it to be true to the story, but more of a satire of all relationships between men and women.

                    @Rochellaine

I just love the whole idea of it. I’m currently reading the plot of the original short story πŸ˜›

Its funny because the sermon we were watching as I read the synopsis was about relationships between men and women, particularly dating, so it was very applicable πŸ˜€

@seekjustice Which would you choose? πŸ˜› It’s actually easy if you realize what true love is, right?Β  I mean, wouldn’t it obviously be better for him to live, even though married to someone else, than die a horrible death?Β  Sounds like she had a pretty selfish love if there was even a consideration of showing him the wrong door.Β  What do you think?

If you ever have a while I’d definitely recommend the American Playhouse Diaries of Adam and Eve.Β  It’s very simple, with just a man and a woman in normal clothes saying their lines with the help of a very few props, but the actors are great, and the lines are great, and it’s just generally very well done.Β  I think it’s about an hour long, though, so it’ll probably just have to go on your list for “when I get the chance someday.” πŸ˜›

Well, hopefully I would. πŸ™‚ I like that the leave the ending open to interpretation though, even if its kind of maddening πŸ˜› I’m surprised that she didn’t show him the tiger door and then throw herself in to die with him in some tragic Romeo and Juliet type thing.

Which I’m glad didn’t happen, just so you know.

Okay, I’ll look it up, even if I just watch a few clips from it. πŸ™‚

@seekjustice Yes, that does make it interesting, and as you say, maddening. πŸ˜›Β  What I honestly thought, was that she would kidnap the other girl or something, and go behind the door herself, because then the law would be applicable to her as well.Β  I guess the probably wouldn’t hold the ceremony without her, though.Β  It just seems like that would be an easy thing to do.

Ah, haha. πŸ˜› Glad to know that.
