Awesome! Do I dare ask how its going?

June 28, 2018 at 5:15 pm #74590@seekjustice Since I’ve only written about three blog posts, I’m still having quite a bit of trouble figuring out the style of that. π
I’m opening my western now to see if my characters remember me or if I’ll have to introduce myself to them all over again.Β I’ll let you know how that goes.
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 5:21 pm #74591It took me quite a while to really immerse myself in the style of blogging as well, its kind of different to other kinds of writing.
π Have fun with that!

June 28, 2018 at 5:39 pm #74592@seekjustice Yes, I’m sure it’ll take me a while, too.Β I’ve done lots of kinds of writing, but this is different from all of them. π
Ohh, no.Β Not fun.Β I have no idea what’s going on inside Chara’s head right now, and she’s not letting me see it.Β Think if I threaten to switch to Derek’s POV she might behave? π
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 5:44 pm #74593Definitely π
It depends…some characters are so self-centred they want all the povs, some don’t. I feel like Chara wouldn’t mind. In fact, I think she’d be more than happy to share with Derek.

June 28, 2018 at 5:56 pm #74594@seekjustice Hm, I guess you’re right.Β Besides, she’d probably love to have something in common with Derek, huh? π
It was an empty threat anyway, since I don’t intend on using Derek’s POV except as a last resort.Β All the scenes I have planned work best from Chara’s POV, and I’m trying to experiment with using only one, since I usually have several.Β In fact, in most of my books I have basically one for every character – or almost!Β So I need to practice with less, and maybe I’ll get a balance.
Do you think it would be better if some of the scenes were seen through Derek’s eyes, or will it be fine with just Chara?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 6:00 pm #74595I used to write books with heaps of povs as well, but lately I’ve had to limit myself to about two, because otherwise I get overwhelmed. Two’s my favourite though, enough variation without being overwhelming. I think you could try doing some scenes from Derek’s pov, but it would be completely fine if you just did it exclusively with Chara.

June 28, 2018 at 6:18 pm #74596@seekjustice And yet you used Zac’s POV inΒ When Infinity is Empty which made it three. πΒ But that was only for a few pages.Β And it was pretty necessary.
I’ll consider it.Β Most of the scenes I have planned will very much not work with any POV but Chara’s.Β I thought if I did a second it would probably be Raelyn for a few scenes, but I just remembered something I was talking with my brother about in the earlier stages of the book where we discussed a scene that would need Derek’s POV.Β Now that I’ve remembered that I’ll definitely have to think how to do it, because it would be kind of weird to have his perspective suddenly in the middle of the book for just one scene, right? π
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 6:27 pm #74597Yeah, I did. But I think it worked okay, and like you said, it wasn’t for long.
And that would be a bit weird. So either you’d have to leave that scene out or put some more scenes in his pov beforehand.

June 28, 2018 at 6:38 pm #74598@seekjustice Yes, I think so too.Β I’ll either have to find a way to make the story work with out that scene, or have Chara watching or something, so she can describe it, or else just find a few more scenes that I can do from Derek’s perspective.
I think I might be able to have that scene from Chara’s POV if she’s watching it happen or listening to the conversation, maybe through a window or something, since she can’t be actually there.Β Yeah, I think that might work.
Great.Β Now that I’ve remembered that scene, and it’s from one of my favorite parts of the story, I want to go write it right away! πΒ But I’ve found that everything works better for me if I write the book mostly in order.Β Do you ever write scenes out of place and then puzzle piece them together like movie directors do?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 6:44 pm #74599Eavesdropping is always good in those situations π
occasionally I write scenes beforehand, but usually I just write a synopsis of the scene and then stick them together like puzzle pieces π

June 28, 2018 at 6:55 pm #74600@seekjustice Oho!Β What kind of “situation” do you think it is? πΒ It’s actually just guys talking about guns, mostly.Β Probably not what you were guessing, right?
But hm, now you’ve given me an idea.Β Eavesdropping is cool, isn’t it? π
When I try to write a synopsis I usually get carried away, so instead I try to keep them in my head.Β And that doesn’t work either, because I often forget scenes I had planned months in advance…looks like I’ll have to find some sort of system for that.
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 7:06 pm #74601Oh, righto π
Well, yes, it is cool…especially in stories. very useful π
Well, by synopsis, I usually just scribble a sentence which will help me to remember it, or a quote or something. But it is annoying when you don’t write it down and you know you had a brilliant idea…but you can’t remember what it was. π

June 28, 2018 at 7:35 pm #74602@seekjustice I dropped out for a bit to eat dinner, but now have a little bit of time before going to prepare for the guests we’re having tonight and tomorrow. π
How’s your editing going?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
June 28, 2018 at 8:20 pm #74603Sorry, I just was doing some cleaning, I’m having my quiet time now, but I’ll probably be on later.
The editing isn’t going as fast as I’d like, but I’m getting there. π
