Luckily, I had recorded it when I was practising, so I was able to make a transcript.
Thanks for praying, I have to go now 😀

Wow! That’s so encouraging to hear that you like it! I was kind of reluctant to even ask you about your opinions on retellings just because I wasn’t sure what you would think about my idea.“(Especially if Prince John was trying to take over England and crush all opposition, while the sheriff is trying to catch Robin and John is trying to stop him. It’d be gloriously chaotic and fun).”
Yess!! I’m so excited to do stuff like that! You totally get me! *nods*
Is there much difference between story retellings and stories that are just based off something? Or are those kind of the same thing?
Thanks so much for putting all the time into answering my questions I really appreciate it!
and I was so confused

Kapeefer til we're old and greyApril 6, 2018 at 6:27 pm #70241I definitely think you should write it 😀
I would say the difference between an adaption and a retelling is quite loose. But I think that you can see the difference in two versions of Sherlock Holmes. If you look at Basil Rathbone’s Sherlock movies, they tend to have the same plot as the stories and they’re based on and it doesn’t change the story other than what is necessary to turn a book into a movie. Michael Morpurgo does this with his book Outlaw, where he adapts Robin Hood into a children’s story but doesn’t change very much.
I think a retelling though, is more like the BBC Sherlock tv series. They’ve changed a lot in the stories and with all the famous stories, though they use the base of the stories, they always provide a clever twist. If you haven’t seen Sherlock, I definitely suggest watching it to get a good idea of how to do an enjoyable retelling, which I think does a really good job of appealing to fans of the originals and gathering its own fanbase.
BBC Merlin is another retelling, versus stories like The Sword in the Stone, which are adaptions.
Does that make sense?

April 6, 2018 at 6:31 pm #70242@seekjustice…BBC!!!!!
@notawriter, I think also retellings allow for more creativity, and adaptations try to follow the original story more. Or it might be the other way aroundWIP - Decisions
