I know you wanted a copy so I thought I’d let you know that there are zero of the first book left in stock, one of the second book, and one of the set (book 1 and 2 combined) that are still left. The rest sold yesterday.

April 13, 2026 at 4:30 pm #211517Question for other world building enthusiasts and /or other KeePers.
Anyone else make up languages? If so, what methods do you use? If not, is there any language you just like the sound of? Do y’all prefer logical languages or something closer to linguistic chaos?
I’ve been working on one off and on the last few years. It’s nothing serious, considering I only have a few words and grammar structures figured out, but it is fun. I recently discovered the primitive root structure of Hebrew and have been using it to make up words in this conlang. (Every word belongs to a family of words all based off a 2-3 letter root. Each family has a basic meaning, with each word in it using the root meaning a slightly different way whether by making it a verb or making it figurative.) This language is now being primed for puns lol.

April 13, 2026 at 4:54 pm #211518@elishavet-pidyon I have one conlang, but it’s not an advanced language, just the remains of a long-extinct one. The characters use it as a naming system–two-syllable names consisting of the two one-syllable words in the old language that best describe the person.
Gerald handled that. You don’t question Gerald. (if you know you know)
April 13, 2026 at 5:04 pm #211519Oh fun! Extinct languages in stories are some of my favorite. Is it commonly understood by the characters, or is it like Latin and has a niche group that uses it?

April 13, 2026 at 5:23 pm #211520@elishavet-pidyon Kinda in between? Like, the planet that it came from uses it for their naming system so they understand a lot of it, at least what was written down, but besides that most of the other worlds just think of the words as weird names.
not sure if that makes sense but ehhh

April 13, 2026 at 11:53 pm #211522If I need a different language, I usually use some messed up version of Latin. because I already know basic Latin. Or I just make up words that sound like the essence I want to convey.
I may not create other languages, BUT I love collecting words, phrases, and names in English that belong in the world. The slang and vocabulary can make one book very different from another. It’s like creating a biome. In fact I call it a “word biome.” (I think I got that phrase from someone, but I don’t remember who!)
For example, names. Ethel sounds older than Zane. Its popularity peaked a while ago in America. Now imagine my MC’s name is Ethel. You probably wouldn’t think she’s from a futuristic sci-fi novel, would you? Different words have different feelings associated with them.
I collect older slang, names for people and places, etc. I also have a list of words and phrases that have different meanings, but they all secretly originate from one concept. I’m not going to say what it is, but it’s relevant to my story and it’s a neat bit of worldbuilding.
Anyway. I highly recommend keeping a list of words because it helps solidify your characters’ vocabulary, if nothing else.
I am out of signature ideas
